NYR/WSH 10/9 Review: Blueshirts Lose To Caps; Perhaps Lose CZAR IGOR For a Long Stretch Too, Rangerstown Awaiting CZAR IGOR’s Diagnosis; Down To Two Rookie Goalies (Hello Again Jonathan Quick?), Next Man Up; “From The Waiver Wire to Starting Goalie: The Dylan Garand Lifetime Movie”, Not A Great Night For The Power-Play, Beaudoin, The FAT CATS or For Anyone, What’s Next, M$GN & More

The Rangers dropped what was practically a one-goal decision on Friday night in Washington, D.C., as Tom Wilson scored an empty net goal with just .8 seconds remaining in regulation in order to give the Caps a 3-1 win over our beloved Blueshirts. In what was the biggest litmus test of this young season, then Sully’s Squad hung in there – and perhaps they would’ve even proved triumphant too had CZAR IGOR not been injured at the near midway point of the game. It’s tough to really break down the minutiae of tonight’s game itself, as obviously, the top topic in Rangerstown, USA is the future of CZAR IGOR. After all, how can you worry about anything else besides the team’s best player?

Greetings and salutations everyone and welcome to another blog here on BlueCollarBlueShirts.com. We just can’t have anything nice in 2026.

Okay, the New York Knicks did just win the NBA title; but then again – and I’m not the biggest basketball fan either.

(That is, outside of my devout and day one fandom of the Indiana Fever. Let’s Go Sophie and Caitlin!)

Needless to say – and a Rangers’ Stanley Cup victory would complete me. The Knicks’ championship win was just a pleasant event for yours truly.

Whether it was Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton with the Yankees, or Jaxson Dart and Brian Burns with the New York Giants this year – then we’ve seen both dreams dashed and hopes hummed in the Big Apple due to superstar season-ending injuries.

(But who knows, perhaps the Giants have a shot at winning their division. The Yankees? The less said about Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman, the better.)

CZAR IGOR, who despite all of his excellence, greatness, Vezina hardware and of course, one goal scored on his ledger too, also has two nasty words attached to him whenever one speaks of #31 – “injury prone.”

Whether his injuries are of the “freak” nature or not; regardless and CZAR IGOR, since joining the Rangers in January of 2020, has missed 57 games due to medical reasons (more about this below).

The date of October 9th, 2026, marked his latest injury – and the eighth of his NHL career too.

And for CZAR IGOR, set to turn 31-years-old at the end of the year?

Then eight injuries only leads to more wear-and-tear – and a rapid decline from his peak.

Yours truly and CZAR IGOR following his NHL/Rangers debut on January 7th, 2020.

As you’re all aware of by now, then just a minute-or-so prior to the half-way mark of Friday night’s game in D.C., and while the Blueshirts were trying to kill off a Capitals’ power-play too, this happened:

While on a mad scramble when trying to keep the Rangers’ penalty kill flawless; CZAR IGOR left his net, then tried to get back to it and when trying to correctly position himself once there – he slammed his right skate into the left post with all of his might.

The post didn’t budge.

CZAR IGOR did.

He didn’t just budge, but he crumpled and where at one point – he was left flat on his back:

CZAR IGOR, who once getting off of his back, started slamming his glove on the ice, had to be assisted to the locker room – as he couldn’t put any weight on his right leg. What scares me the most about this injury? The fact that I talked to about a dozen people who attended this game in-person and they all said the same thing to me – “The injury looked worse live than what you saw on TV.” Photo Credit: M$GN

As you long know by now – CZAR IGOR is my favorite player, I’ve been following his career since 2017 and blah-blah-blah.

And yeah, my tired-and-true pic from 2017 – when I used to wear his SKA jersey at M$G:

Hi Travis!

As you also long know by now – the Rangers’ chances at utmost success solely relies on CZAR IGOR’s shoulders.

Losing him for even a short amount of time dampens the team’s hopes.

Losing him for any significant amount of time?

Well do I have to remind you of what transpired last season?

According to everyone – pundits, bloggers, podcasters, reporters, fans, your mailman, the homeless guy you give loose change to – EVERYONE – and they all said some iteration of the following going into this season:

“The Rangers will only go as far as CZAR IGOR takes them. If he gets injured again, then forget about it.”

Think I’m exaggerating?

Then try this on for size:

Friend of the site, Matthew P. Mugno, did some research on CZAR IGOR’s previous injuries and came up with these following facts and figures:

In the 2019-20 season, CZAR IGOR missed six games (car accident with Pavel Buchnevich) and where the Rangers went 2-7 in that stretch.

In the 2021 COVID season, CZAR IGOR missed ten games (groin injury) and where the Rangers went 4-4-2 in that stretch.

In the 2021-22 season, CZAR IGOR missed eight games (lower-body injury) and where the Rangers went 4-4 in that stretch.

In the 2023-24 season, the season when the Rangers won the Presidents’ Trophy, CZAR IGOR missed four games (minor lower-body injury) and where the Rangers went 3-1 in that stretch.

In the 2024-25 season, CZAR IGOR had two separate minor injuries and where the Rangers went 1-4-1 in that stretch.

In the 2025-26 season, one of the worst campaigns in franchise history, CZAR IGOR missed thirteen games (severe lower-body injury) and where the Rangers went 2-11-1 in that stretch.

In total, then throughout CZAR IGOR’s career and the Rangers are 18-35-4 in the 57 games that the goalie was medically ineligible to play.

So yeah – not good.

New Rangers, Sean Durzi and Marcus Pettersson, had to assist CZAR IGOR to the tunnel. Photo Credit: NHL

You may have heard this about me – I’m not a doctor. Duh.

(But I think that I could play a good one on TV. After all, Ted Danson did it so I can too – and yes – that’s a George Costanza Seinfeld reference!)

And while it’s probably best not to speculate about whatever CZAR IGOR’s injury may be – and how long that he’ll be out for too – but it’s impossible not to think this way.

I mean, how can you not think about this?

I should also note at this time what you probably already know:

Following the game and head coach Mike Sullivan said that he had no update on CZAR IGOR.

As far as when we will get an update?

Probably sometime Saturday afternoon when the Rangers practice – but even then – and the information may remain vague.

After all, and even following tonight’s 3-1 loss to the Capitals – and Sully had no updates on either Joe Veleno or Joonas Korpisalo, outside of saying, “status quo” – and where “status quo” has been “no new information.”

Around the hockey universe and everyone is predicting the worst imaginable – torn MCL, torn ACL, a broken knee cap, you name it, it’s out there.

I won’t comment on what I think his injury is, because again, I’m not a doctor.

That said?

Then I fully expect the worst case scenario.

After all, this is this site’s mantra:

Ugh – and for five games there – and I was really excited about this team again.

If you’ve been following this site for some time, including my past five GAME REVIEWS, then you know that I’ve been pleasantly surprised with this team – so much so that I even posted this on X after the win over the Islanders:

Ugh – but at least I didn’t get “sucked in.”

Not that such a thing makes me feel any better right now.

In fact, even as I write these words, about six-hours after the game (I had to work ball-bustin’ overtime at the real j-o-b on Friday night – and where for new readers – I save and sandwich-in all my break time for Blueshirt games) – and I’m still sick to my stomach over this injury.

I feel like I’ve been kicked in the balls by an NFL kicker.

Why can’t anything go right for this franchise?

But at least I’m not a Jets fan – but even so – and this CZAR IGOR injury still sickens me to my core.

And keep in mind, and as talked about earlier this summer – I now require medication for my high blood pressure – and where I’m gonna need a triple-dose of my meds after tonight!

From the waiver-wire to starting goalie in two-weeks – The Dylan Garand Story.

I don’t want to get too crazy tonight despite my body shaking with anger and fear over this injury; but we must admit that this doesn’t look good.

I think we can also assume that Dylan Garand will be in-between the pipes when the Rangers play next – Sunday night at M$G when the Blueshirts host the Vancouver Canucks.

(For what it’s worth, then I always thought this game would go to Garand, as the Canucks aren’t very good and it would be better to save CZAR IGOR for Tampa on Tuesday.)

That all said, then if CZAR IGOR is to miss any significant amount of time, then the Rangers are screwed.

For now, Dylan Garand, and because of injuries not only in New York (CZAR IGOR and Korpisalo) and in Hartford too (Spencer Martin), is now the Rangers’ temporary defacto starting goalie.

His back-up?

The 22-year-old unknown – Callum Tung.

When it comes to Garand – what a whirlwind of events.

Just two-weeks ago and Garand’s future was up-in-the-air for 24-hours, as he was placed on the waiver wire.

Thankfully, the whole league, akin to the Rangers, was also placing players on waivers that day.

Also most fortunate?

The Canucks and Oilers hadn’t yet played one regular season game!

In turn, Garand, who ultimately cleared waivers, was now third on the Rangers’ goaltender depth chart.

As we all know, Korpisalo soon got hurt and boom – Garand was no longer the starter in Hartford – but now the back-up in New York.

Should CZAR IGOR be down for some time, then the Rangers, as a team, will need some help in net.

As they say, injuries make opportunities and for Garand – he becomes the biggest Blueshirts’ beneficiary of this bad news.

I don’t think that Garand can ever “Wally Pipp” CZAR IGOR (but he should be able to do the same to Korpisalo – a goalie who shouldn’t even be here in the first place) – but for the rookie goaltender – and he can now make a name for himself.

I’m not expecting Garand to post shutouts every night, and as he did in his last start (against Detroit), nor am I expecting #33 to score goals either – but if he can play well, steal a few pucks and rack up some wins – then Garand, when CZAR IGOR hopefully comes back, could become a valuable trade asset, or at the very least, command a starter’s job once becoming a free agent – ala previous Blueshirt back-up backstops such as Cam Talbot, Antti Raanta and Alexandar Georgiev.

Just as it was in 2014-15 for Talbot or in 2017-18 for Raanta – and Garand is getting the biggest opportunity of his career.

Should things work out for him and the Rangers?

Then this period of time will one day be looked back at the start of his league-wide ascension.

And we may also track back to this date as “FROM WAIVER WIRE TO STARTING GOALIE IN TWO WEEKS: THE DYLAN GARAND LIFETIME MOVIE!”

If not?

Then he may become another Sieve Vagistat – an NHL goalie for all of 46 games.

I wouldn’t bet against Drury asking Jonathan Quick to temporarily come out of retirement. Photo Credit: NYR

The only reason why Drury traded for Korpisalo over the summer was because the Pizza Man GM thought a veteran behind CZAR IGOR was needed, following the retirement of Jonathan Quick.

We don’t need to rehash my opinions on Korpisalo for the 7867868679867986th time, nor how Cam Talbot could’ve been had for a much cheaper price – and without having to surrender a draft pick either.

Again – the NHL and their employees are very vague with injury information.

But what we do know for a fact is that Drury wanted a veteran for his Vezina winning goalie.

Today, and Drury’s top-two active goaltenders right now are Garand and Tung.

And even if Martin was healthy – then do you really want to see this schmuck again?

I think we all saw enough of him last season.

What we also know for a fact?

Quick has a very strong relationship with the franchise that he grew up rooting for – and also ended his career with.

He’s also still on the payroll – now in his new job as Director of Goaltending Development.

What better way to develop Garand than by having Quick provide in-game teachings and lessons from not only practice, but from the bench too?

And when Garand needs a breather?

Then I’m sure that Quick, who is still in shape, could start a game or two as well.

And when CZAR IGOR is able again?

Then Quick can put the pads back in storage and go right back to coaching.

I mean, what other options are there RIGHT NOW, aside from a rookie Garand/Tung tandem?

Another food for thought?

What would’ve happened had Garand been claimed two-weeks ago?

Perish the thought – and just like I wish how I could perish this bad CZAR IGOR news.

It’s nice that new Ranger, the $11M man, Pavel Dorofeyev, shoots a lot – but when will the pucks go in the net? Photo Credit: NYR

I understand that there is an acclimation process to respect, but six games into this 2026-27 campaign, and Dorofeyev, with one goal, is shooting at 6%.

Mika Zibanejad, who you know I would’ve traded years ago, much less ever re-sign him, is also stuck on one goal.

Captain J.T. Miller also has one goal to his name – and that’s because a puck bounced off of his skate.

These are your three highest-paid forwards, the fattest of FAT CATS, and combined – they have three goals.

Elsewhere and the much cheaper Oliver Bjorkstrand and Gabriel Perreault have two goals each, while bottom-sixer Eeli Tolvanen has three.

Your team leader in goals, a man much younger than the three highest-paid forwards, Alexis Lafreniere (4).

This is all to say that if CZAR IGOR isn’t coming back anytime soon, then it’s up to your highest-paid forwards, your alleged superstars, to lift and carry this team.

That didn’t happen on Friday night.

Don’t get it twisted – I’m not saying that Miller & Mika have been playing bad – as they’ve been great defensively. They just need to pick up the scoring – even more so now with CZAR IGOR down. Photo Credit: NYR

The players, nor the coaching staff either for that matter, will ever admit that the Rangers lost the wind in their sails once CZAR IGOR went down.

But that’s what happened.

A Lafreniere power-play goal, scored at the 10:17 mark of the game, thus increasing the Rangers’ lousy man-up success rate, put the Rangers ahead 1-0.

And that was it for the Sully’s Squad scoring on this night.

While the Rangers did go a perfect 3/3 on the penalty kill; they also squandered away two other man-up opportunities – and where during both of these failures – the Washington PK almost scored themselves.

And in a game where only one more goal was required – that was a difference – but of course – not the biggest due to the CZAR IGOR injury.

A Timothy Liljegren goal, scored at the 6:08 mark of the second period, tied the game at 1-1.

CZAR IGOR was screened on this hammer of a shot.

When CZAR IGOR went down, he had made 13 saves on 14 shots.

Garand, who came into this game ice cold, was excellent.

If there was any finger-pointing on this night, then all digits were pointed directly at rookie Cole Beaudoin, playing in place of Joe Veleno – and in his second career game.

Beaudoin, who took another penalty tonight, made a god awful turnover on what eventually became the game-winning goal – and as he did at around the 17:38 mark – when former Columbus captain, Boone “OH JOE, BRUCE JOE!” Jenner, beat Garand.

2-1, Caps.

Overall, I thought the Rangers played well – but they could never find another goal.

In shades from last season – and the team once again suffered long shots on goal droughts.

But they did play the right way – it’s just that the goals never came.

Garand, even if he took the loss, had nothing to be ashamed about.

He finished 11/12 (.917%) and he was nowhere at fault for the game-winning goal allowed.

Had a FAT CAT been able to pot a puck or two?

Then Garand would’ve been lauded as a hero.

The CZAR IGOR injury is obviously the biggest story from this game.

But it shouldn’t be forgotten that in a litmus test game – and the Rangers held their own.

Maybe CZAR IGOR’s offense, where he springs teammates via his homerun passes, could’ve been the difference between a win and a loss.

But to look at the goalie to create offense instead of your highest-paid forwards isn’t the right approach either.

Don’t take anything of what I’m saying here as knocking the Rangers on this night.

I thought they played well enough against a team that should be in the thick of the playoff mix come April.

They just need the FAT CATS – and not bottom-sixers – to score goals – and as they are paid to do.

After this long, but necessary into, then before getting into everything else, our usual spiel at this juncture:

In case you missed it, then here’s where I last left off – Lafreniere’s hat trick against the Islanders:

NYR/NYI 10/6 Review: Alexis Lafreniere’s Hat Trick Ruins ESPN’s Love Affair with Matthew Schaefer; Blueshirts’ 1st Overall Shuts Up The Calder Winner, Another TEAM WIDE Victory; No Weak Links, Sully’s Squad Literally Fights To The Finish; Big Night For Oliver “Army of Me” BJORKstrand, Beaudoin Debuts; Robertson Waived & Veleno on IR, Lots To Be Proud About; Keep on Motoring & More

Sullivan was all smiles prior to tonight’s tilt.

Following the win over the Islanders, then after an off-day on Wednesday, the team reconvened for practice a day later at their training facility in Tarrytown.

As far as the practice itself, then it was what you’d expect – the same line-up – and one that had won four straight games.

Simple stuff.

As far as anything worth mentioning from Sullivan’s post-practice interview from Thursday, then the head coach still didn’t have an update on Veleno and Korpisalo.

If you want to watch him ramble on for another ten-minutes, then here was his media interview prior to the team boarding their bird to our nation’s capital:

Here was Silly Sully’s line-up for the sixth game of this 84-game 2026-27 campaign:

FIRST LINE: Perreault/Mika/Lafreniere

SECOND LINE: Kartye/Miller/Dorofeyev

THIRD LINE: Cuylle/Laba/Tolvanen

FOURTH LINE: Bjorkstrand/Beaudoin/Chmelar

FIRST PAIR: Gavrikov/Fox

SECOND PAIR: Pettersson/Durzi

THIRD PAIR: Smits/Schneider

STARTING GOALIE: CZAR IGOR

BACK-UP: Garand

Only M$GN employs a two-goalie panel – and even worse – they feature the worst goalie in Rangers’ history. If you’re going to have Henrik Lundqvist there, then give him Brian Boyle to work off of – and not Sieve Vagistat. Photo Credit: M$GN

Tonight’s M$GN broadcast featured the first appearance of “THE KING OF COMMENTARY,” Henrik Lundqvist, this season.

Unfortunately, the seven-foot hemorrhoid, the worst goalie in franchise history, the useless Sieve Vagistat was there too.

After Lundqvist mentioned several of the real (not Vagistat’s made-up nonsense) and positive stats, then this is when the seven-foot douche started plugging his own crappy ANALytical company – and when I turned off the pregame show.

Once returned to the network for puck drop, then M$GN aired Alex Ovechkin’s retirement speech.

As you’d expect and both Dave Maloney and Kenny Albert also spoke glowingly of “The Great Eight.”

In a nice touch, Lundqvist, who almost became his teammate in 2021, spoke about their Hall of Fame rivalry.

When it comes to Ovechkin, then you know how I feel – he’s one of the greatest of all-time.

I’ve always enjoyed his style of play, as unlike his counter-part Sidney Crosby – and not only can Ovi score goals – but he can hit and get physical too.

And really, among recent Stanley Cup celebrations, then who was more fun to watch other than the greatest NHL goal scorer of all-time?

Whether Ovi finishes his professional career over in Mother Russia or not is unknown, but either way, I’ve enjoyed watching him play the game.

I’m gonna miss him when he goes – but I won’t miss him scoring power-play goals against the Blueshirts, from his spot in the circle, either!

And finally – GAME REVIEW time – and where let’s face it:

No one cares about the result of this game anymore – as all we want to know is how long CZAR IGOR will be out for.

Not only does Lafreniere have four goals on the season – but he’s also scored three out of the last four Ranger goals too. Photo Credit: Getty Images

FIRST PERIOD

As CZAR IGOR and Logan Thompson took their nets, M$GN missed the first draw of the game but it was J.T. Miller who beat Dylan Strome at the dot.

About a minute in, Sean Durzi entered this rivalry as he gave Tom Wilson a big hit in the corner behind CZAR IGOR.

Come the 1:36 mark, the Rangers got the first power-play of the game, as Ryan Leonard tripped Gabe Perreault.

The Blueshirts’ power-play, that entered this game as 3/14 (PP2 has two of the three man-up scores), watched Washington get the first scoring chance.

The first quintet didn’t do much, and with 12-seconds remaining, the second unit finished the now 0/1 power-play.

As a result, the Rangers’ power-play was now 3/15 on the season – or 20%.

At the 4:20 mark, CZAR IGOR made a pair of saves, #4 and #5, thus meaning he was averaging over a save per-minute – and despite his own team previously having a man-advantage.

At the 5:30 mark, Smits made a block, and right after that, CZAR IGOR stopped Jakob Chychrun.

About a minute later, the Protas’ Bros came close, but they played horseshoes and not hockey.

The next few minutes were back-and-forth, as the Caps maintained a 2:1 SOG advantage (6-3).

Down to 10:36 remaining, the Rangers got their second power-play as Dylan McIlrath slashed/tripped Chmelar.

Fifty-three seconds into the man-advantage, and Mr. Hat Trick himself, Alexis Lafreniere, skated himself into the space in-between the circles and rifled a wicked twirl of a shot past Thompson for the 1-0, GOOD GUYS, goal at the 10:17 mark.

The Blueshirts’ power-play was now 4/16 on the season – jumping up 5% to 25% overall.

Furthermore, and as a result of the goal and Thompson was sporting a paltry .800 save percentage.

Down to 8:32 remaining, CZAR IGOR went for one of his patented homerun passes (no “SHOOOOOOOOT!” chants, due to this game being played in Washington), but had too much on it for the icing call.

Come 7:15 remaining, Thompson stoned Dorofeyev from point-blank range.

With about five-minutes to play, Thompson stopped Dorofeyev and Lafreniere.

Down to 3:55 left in the period, the Rangers’ PK got their first taste of action, as the newest Blueshirt in town, Cole Beaudoin, hooked Leonard as the Cap was crossing the blue line while on the attack.

Following a CZAR IGOR save, the notorious agitator, TW43, had a few words for Schneider – and where the Ranger didn’t back down.

A minute into the kill and CZAR IGOR stopped Ovechkin from his sweet spot for his tenth save.

The end result of these two-minutes?

Another perfect PK – and now 1/1 in this particular match.

Come the horn, the 1-0 score remained in-tact.

Here’s what I said at the time:

1-0, GOOD GUYS, through twenty. 1P Thoughts:

— Special teams looking special – power-play 1/2, PK 1/1.

— Six straight games without giving up a first period goal.

— Lafreniere picking up where he left off – hell of a shot.

— SOG, 11-7, home team.

— No NDA Panarin, no crazy east-west shit – and the 7669689686896786 turnovers that always ensued.

— They remain playing the right way – and for each other too – every Ranger gathered around Schneider when Tom Wilson was jaw-jabbing at him.

— Keep it going.

We all wait, with bated breath, the fate of CZAR IGOR’s injury. Photo Credit: Rena B.

SECOND PERIOD

Miller easily beat Strome at the dot to start the stanza.

About fifty-seconds later and CZAR IGOR stoned Ryan’s brother.

After that, CZAR IGOR then stopped Wilson on the Caps’ next shift.

Four-minutes into the period and the Rangers were still looking for their first SOG.

This remained the case come the six-minute mark (Caps had 3 SOG).

Eight-seconds later?

At the 6:08 mark, Timothy Liljegren beat CZAR IGOR for the 1-1 equalizer via slap shot through traffic (Chychrun was screening the goalie).

If that wasn’t enough, then at the 6:50 mark, and with the score now tied, Captain Miller went to the box for high-sticking Martin Fehervary, thus putting the Rangers’ PK back on the ice for the second time in the contest.

Dubois almost scored with 30-seconds left on the Washington power-play, but Zibanejad was boxed – or so we thought.

However, we had more pressing issues to worry about – as this is when CZAR IGOR went down, as he sprawled into his own net – and where his right skate went full force into the left goal post.

With 11:40 remaining, Dylan Garand entered the game – and with Zibanejad never having to step into the sin bin despite a penalty being assessed against him.

End result?

A 2/2 PK – and no CZAR IGOR.

Come the half-way mark of the game/period, we remained at 1-1 and with Washington having a 17-9 SOG advantage (Garand 3 saves at the time).

A minute later and Thompson stopped Dorofeyev for the fourth time – which was kind of noticeable – as the new Ranger had 40% of all Ranger SOG.

And really, and even if the Rangers’ weren’t doing much at the time either – then all you could think about was CZAR IGOR.

Ugh.

We can never have nice things here.

As we wound down to five-minutes remaining, the Rangers spent a lot of time in the Washington zone – but couldn’t challenge Thompson with a shot.

That said, and for a goalie who had all of four games of NHL experience in net – then offense (or o-zone time) was the best defense in this tied 1-1 match.

Come 3:30 left in the period and Cuylle and Tolvanen almost broke what now was a 12-minute Rangers’ SOG drought – but no dice.

It wasn’t until there was 2:40 remaining when Beaudoin broke the Rangers’ SOG drought. However, Thompson made the save, and immediately after, with 2:22 left to play officially, and former Columbus captain, Boone “Bruce” Jenner, put the Caps’ ahead 2-1 after ironically of all things – a Beaudoin turnover.

And similar to Beaudoin’s dance with fate, and Jenner, who at least did score, took a high-sticking penalty, and as he did with 2:03 remaining when he got too high with Dorofeyev.

The PP1 five couldn’t score and after a whistle with 57-seconds remaining the second unit came on – and where they almost gave up a shorthanded goal (Garand stopped Aliaksei Protas).

And that was it for the now 1/3 Rangers’ PP – and for CZAR IGOR too.

2-1, them, through forty-minutes.

Here’s what I said at the time:

2-1, home team, through 40. 2P Thoughts:

— I’m not a doctor (you may have heard), but that CZAR IGOR injury looked pretty serious – and just by looking at his face – then I think that’s his impression too.

— All we can hope is that CZAR IGOR’s injury is some temporary pain and that he’ll miss a game or two, but since nothing good can ever happen here – then I’m expecting the worst.

— What happens against Vancouver? Garand backed-up by Martin? Yikes.

— Rangers need to get this power-poing going at a consistent level. Washington, already up a goal, almost went up by two via the shorty.

— Still waiting for Dorofeyev to have his first real Rangers’ signature moment. He’s getting shots off – but can’t beat his former goaltender (Thompson, Vegas).

— Who wants to be a hero? Last year’s Rangers easily lose this game – how about these guys rally behind their fallen goalie and show that they don’t need to be carried by Igor every night.

— My stomach still feels queasy.

Ovi, nor his new teammates, Jordan Kyrou and Alex Tuch, wasn’t a factor tonight – but another new Capital, Boone Jenner, was. Photo Credit: Rena B.

THIRD PERIOD

Following an intermission where I chain smoked, had diarrhea, puked and felt like ugly crying – the third frame finally commenced.

It was also around this time where it was reported that Spencer Martin had sustained an injury in Hartford too, leaving the Rangers’ goalie depth chart right now as Garand and Tung.

Fighting back the urge to vomit once more, Justin Sourdif beat Miller at the dot to begin the period.

As Thompson made a save on Gavrikov at the 42-second mark, Albert and Maloney reported that the NHL had told them during the intermission that the penalty Zibanejad was assessed with during the CZAR IGOR injury was rescinded – and where you don’t see such events transpiring very often.

About a minute later, Chycrun almost got a fluke goal against Garand – but praise the hockey gods – and that’s not what happened.

The Caps then soon got a 3 x 2 against the Rangers’ fourth line, but Garand & Co. were able to fend it off. It was also around this time where I thought that Beaudoin may be returning to Hartford.

At the 4:04 mark, Thompson made his first save of the period, denying Laba of his first NHL goal this season. A few seconds later, Garand stopped Wilson, but Fox hooked him in the process.

As a result, and at the 4:31 mark and the Caps were back on the power-play.

Garand made a few nice saves during this, including when he robbed Leonard.

Come the end of the two-minutes and the Rangers’ PK was now 3/3 on the night.

As we hit ten-minutes remaining, the score remained at 2-1, and with the SOG counter reading Washington 26, New York 20.

Thirty-seconds later and Thompson denied Gavrikov – as the Rangers couldn’t find their second goal of the game here. And of course, Wilson had to run his mouth at the Rangers’ Russian afterwards.

As we got under eight-minutes remaining, Durzi had one hell of a shift, but his fourth liners couldn’t put a SOG despite the d-man setting them up.

Come the FOXWOODS FINAL FIVE mark, and where yours truly was hoping for a FAT CAT equalizer, Miller bobbled a pass in the o-zone.

Down to 90-seconds remaining and this is when Garand left the net for the extra skater.

Ten-seconds later, and after a stoppage, this is when Sully used his timeout.

The Rangers, now on their first 6 x 5 of the season, saw Dorofeyev come close with under a minute to go but no cigar.

And just as we were about to hit triple zeros – then, and for the rotten cherry on top – Wilson sealed the deal with the 3-1, empty netter – and 3-1, bad guys, your final.

Following the players rolling their eyes at the useless gash over at the New York Post (and did you hear on the podcast that she stole from Ron Duguay, how Brian Boyle had to tell the hockey savant, Ms. Giggles herself, Mollie Walker, what a saucer pass was); then Sullivan briefly talked to the media – and where duh – he isn’t exactly thrilled with CZAR IGOR’s injury either:

If anything, then it was nice of Sullivan to not remove himself from Beaudoin, as instead, he defended the youngster after his brutal turnover that led to the GWG.

We’ll see how long Beaudoin remains though – but I do know this – once Veleno is ready-and-able – and the rookie will be returned to Hartford – as he hasn’t helped the team in his short two-game sample size.

Up Next: CZAR IGOR injury update information following Saturday’s practice.

After that: Rangers v. Canucks on Sunday night – and where, surprise, surprise – Filip Chytil is out again with a concussion.

Who would’ve thought?

See ya after Sunday night’s soiree, but until then, my favorite segment and yours, you know…

(UPDATE: I just received two free ducats from a reader – so I’m going Sunday night – which means that I may not return until Monday morning.)
