Greetings and salutations everyone and welcome to another blog here on BlueCollarBlueShirts.com. I hope that Sean McDonough gets anally violated by a homeless man outside of M$G.
(And this too: The Red Wings should have started KING CAM TALBOT!)
After all, then if it wasn’t for this loud-mouthed and moronic McDonough jerkoff – then a script that not even Hollywood could have produced would have played out in front of our very eyes during the Rangers’ matinee match on Saturday.
The Blueshirts, bad and boring throughout the majority of this season, haven’t had that many good things to talk about during this crappy centennial campaign.
Funny enough, and just like the New York Giants – and they are saving their best for last – and when it hurts them the most (the draft lottery).
While I’m a charter member of TEAM TANK; then, and with that said – and just as it was with CZAR IGOR’s KO of Jacob Markstrom earlier in the week – and I had no problem whatsoever with this enjoyable 4-1 victory over the Red Wings.
My biggest gripe from the game had to do with ESPN – another poorly produced broadcast (they missed the first score due to their never-ending changing camera angles) – and with one of the worst announcing performances that I’ve ever seen!

In what was a pure wire-to-wire win for Sully’s Squad – and a dominating one at that if I say so myself – then as the game went along, and as the score read 1-0, then 2-0, then 3-0 – and finally 4-0 – and all in favor of the Rangers – and Mental McDonough must’ve shit on the announcer’s handbook about 96786776798679867986 times – as he mentioned that Quick had a “SHUTOUT” going.
Even his partner, Ray Ferraro, a spurned lover of the Blueshirts, would not dare to do the same – and where to his credit – the ex-Ranger even called out the troll-lookin’ McDonough.
And if that wasn’t enough, then when Perreault scored the game’s 4-0 goal with 1:44 remaining – and ESPN showed us a graphic that Quick was the all-time American leader in shutouts (65) too.
Sure enough, and with just an ironic 32-seconds remaining on the clock – and David Perron scored a 4-1 “A-Rod goal.”
McDonough made a mess in his pants – as it felt like he was celebrating that Quick, again, perhaps in his final career start at M$G, had his no-no broken up.
No joke?
Then if this twit McDonough was calling the World Series back on October 8th, 1956 – then we would’ve never saw Don Larsen pitching the only perfect game in the history of the MLB championship.
Instead, and Larsen would’ve given up ten hits, six walks, eight runs – and for good measure – not make it out of the first inning either!
And that’s how bad McDonough was today – and where he should be fired by ESPN for breaking every unwritten rule in sports broadcasting on Saturday.
That now off my chest (easy for me to say!), then let’s now return to what was an incredible game for the Rangers – and against a team that pretty much entered M$G under “must-win” circumstances.

The Red Wings needed to win on Saturday.
Granted, while not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs just yet; but their 4-1 loss to the Rangers felt like the final nail hammered into their coffin – and the end of “The Yzerplan” too.
The Blueshirts, who as we all know, are presently better off losing games for the best odds possible come the 2026 NHL Draft Lottery, looked like the team that was sniffing for playoff berth.
I’m not exaggerating when I say the following:
Immediately, as right after the first puck was dropped – and you never thought that the Red Wings would win this game.
And that my friends – says a whole lot!
As I previously remarked on this site on Thursday – and as reiterated/echoed throughout my social media pages on Saturday – and I felt that Quick would get the nod in net for this game.
After all, Quick has good numbers against Detroit, had one of the best games of his Rangers’ career against them earlier this season, had a 40+ save shutout over them last year, has fought the Red Wings (who can forget that iconic picture from November 16th – and I’ll never forget that game either – it was my eldest niece’s first time at M$G), and of course, deserved one last game on home ice to close this campaign.
In turn, and we’ve only recently seen this – and the Rangers played for one another.
We’ve all heard that club vs. team talk before (the word “club” is negative, the word “team” is positive) – and where without a doubt – the Blueshirts were a TEAM on Saturday afternoon.
They were a freakin’ juggernaut too!
I’ll have more on Quick below, but just to say it here – then no one knows what his future for next season is just yet.
Obviously, the speculation is that he’ll retire after the end of this season.
While he can still play, and could help another franchise during his twilight years too; but as we all know – he lives in Connecticut, he wants to raise his family there, and in turn – doesn’t want to leave the area.
And I can’t see him suiting up for the Islanders or Devils next season either.
After all – he’s a born-and-bred Blueshirts’ fan – and where those painful memories of 2014, while not gone, have been forgiven.
(I mean what was Quick supposed to do? Throw a Stanley Cup Final!?!?! That said – and I wouldn’t have minded! Ditto Henrik Lundqvist.)
Quick, who has shied away from all talk in regards to his future (even sticking to this policy following this 4-1 win), perhaps gave a private wink-wink to his teammates in the locker room.
The Rangers, and for sixty consecutive minutes, looked like world-beaters out there – and again – against a team playing for their postseason lives.
And so did Quick.

The Rangers, who lead the league in most periods with single-digit SOG totals this season, never hit double-digits during their three chances today.
But not that it mattered.
The Blueshirts, who controlled the puck for most of the game until a third period where they took two penalties and where Wings’ goalie, John Gibson, vacated his pipes for nearly five-minutes too; were barely out-shot in the first period (8-6), closed the gap a bit in the second period (7-6) and were then out-shot 18-7 in the final frame.
Along the way, and the Rangers’ penalty kill went a flawless 4/4 – and where the bulk of Quick’s eight short-handed saves took place during a 6 x 4 (empty net) Detroit third period power-play.
The Blueshirts also came up with eighteen blocked shots for their goalie and where Tye Kartye led the way with four of them.
You could feel it in your bones – the Blueshirts were not going to allow Quick to leave the ice with his head hung down – nor a loss on his record either.
The energy was contagious and where the “Rangers’ Virus” just completely popped-and-flattened the Spoked Wheels.
And with “Old Man Quick” in net – then this soon became a “CIRCLE OF LIFE” for the retooling/rebuilding Rangers – as all four goals were scored by their rookies.

In a contest that was devoid of much offense – but with plenty of Rangers’ defense – then it wasn’t until the 13:49 mark of the first period when the game’s first goal was scored.
Following a pass from Sykora, then Gavrikov, from the point, blasted the puck towards Gibson – and where Chmelar, with a deft backhand, deflected the rubber right into the Red Wings’ net.
1-0, GOOD GUYS – and another hell of a celebration for the latest BFF duo in town.
As both teams battled – but where it was obvious that the Rangers were far superior in this “Men’s vs Boy’s” game – then it wasn’t until there was only 4:01 left in the second stanza when we saw our second goal.
It was also Gabe Perreault’s first of three – the end result of his center, Mika Zibanejad, finding him all alone and two-feet out from Gibson.
2-0, GOOD GUYS.
In another example of TEAM PLAY, then at the 5:44 mark of the third period, and with the Wings pressing a bit too – and Ben Chiarot high-sticked Will Cuylle.
This led to our fourth or fifth scrum at the time – and our first fight too – as Cuylle avenged his attacker with some hands of his own.
Come the 7:13 mark and with the Rangers on the power-play?
A JONNY BROADWAY picture-perfect feed to Perreault for the 3-0, we’re not going to blow this “dreaded three-goal lead,” score.
Despite late (and extremely unnecessary) penalties taken by both Conor Sheary and Noah Laba – and the Wings still couldn’t beat the impregnable Quick and Co.
And with 1:44 remaining?
Then this is when the man who allegedly bought the Rod Gilbert Award, Captain Culture J.T. Miller, made a selfless play – as rather than scoring the empty net goal himself – he patiently waited for Perreault – and BLAMMO – 4-0, RANGERS – and the first (and natural) hat trick of #94’s budding Blueshirts’ career.
For Perreault, then he became the first Rangers’ rookie since January 16th, 1984 to score a natural hat trick (Peter Sundstrom).
Only McDonough’s fat mouth marred what should’ve been an absolutely perfect day in Rangerstown, USA.
But for Quick, the ultimate and essential TEAM player?
Then I’m sure that he was happier about what the likes of Perreault, Chmelar and Sykora did – as the man never focuses on his own personal accomplishments – or at least not ever in a public manner.
It’s also why, and for the 7986798689679867986786798th time in this space, that I hope that Quick remains in the organization come his second act – post-retirement.
We’ve seen rookies (including Matt Rempe) stay at his home. We are hearing players, and from all positions (including Dylan Garand), praise Quick for all of his advice.
And duh – he’s a future HOFer.
I have no clue what Quick is thinking, nor if he even wants to stay in hockey come retirement neither (he may just want to relax at home with his family).
And it’s not like he needs money anymore either – as he’s very well off.
But whether it be as a goalie coach, an ambassador, a scout or even as a broadcaster (how about a Hall of Fame duo featuring Lundqvist & Quick – and with Sieve Vagistat exiled forever); but whatever the case – then I hope we see more of #32 whenever he decides to hang up the skates and mask.
In case you missed it, then here’s where I last left off – a tank-friendly match against Montreal:
NYR/MTL 4/2 Review: Canadiens Beat Blueshirts; Hab Fans Rename M$G to “Montreal $quare Garden” Too, J.T. Miller Wins / “Buys” Rod Gilbert Award; Dangerous FAT CAT Only Precedent Set, Caufield Dazzles; Maloney Calls Out Both Captain Culture & Silly Sully, What Nobody Is Talking About After The Loss, Six Games Remain – And Who Should Start Them, Bring Back Edstrom, M$GN & More

The Rangers, following Thursday night’s loss at Montreal $quare Garden, reconvened for practice at their training facility in Tarrytown on Friday – and where the entire line-up remained the same.
There were two things worth mentioning from the practice.
The first item was that it was confirmed that the returning Jonathan Quick would be getting the nod on Saturday against Detroit, in the first half of the weekend back-to-back set.
I brought up the speculation about Quick’s future last time around and where in an update – well we really don’t have anything confirmed – nor was much confirmed following the 4-1 win either.
Sullivan, while announcing that Quick would get this start, also teased that the future Hall of Famer would probably get one more start during the final three games too (all on the road).
(It’s funny – had McDonough not been around today – and as a result – Quick successfully finished his shutout bid – then I think that I would’ve shut him down for the rest of the season. Let him go out with a no-no – and let Garand get some time during the final two-weeks too.)
Just to jump ahead for a second, then during Saturday’s ESPN pregame show, and Emily Kaplan reported that Quick won’t talk about if this is his last season or not, and how if he does retire, then he doesn’t want any sort of major fanfare.
That said?
And Quick had a bunch of friends and family at M$G on Saturday – but just to give you the other side – and it’s not like this is out of the ordinary either.
In the other news item worth talking about, then following Dave Maloney’s remarks from Thursday night on M$GN, in regards to Sullivan’s lack of usage of his fourth line, then the Blueshirts’ bench boss gave a lengthy response to the criticism:
“That wasn’t the intent. Part of it was how the game played out. I had said to our coaching staff maybe a couple of games before, at some point, I wouldn’t mind exploring putting the three kids together and see what that might look like. They can all skate. They bring some speed. (Sýkora) has got, I think, a real good relationship with Jaro [Chmelar], in particular, and sometimes those relationships can carry over when they compete hard for one another out there. In a perfect world, my intention was to get them more minutes in the game. There were a number of special team circumstances, and I was looking for one particular match up against Suzuki’s line, which is obviously a dynamic line… So the way kind of the game flowed, let’s just say my intention was to get more minutes for that line.”
Here’s the entire Sully interview from Friday:
Here was Silly Sully’s line-up for the seventy-seventh game of this wretched-and-rotten 2025-26 season:
FIRST LINE: Perreault/Mika/Lafreniere
SECOND LINE: Kartye/Miller/Sheary
THIRD LINE: Cuylle/Trocheck/Brodzinski
FOURTH LINE: Sykora/Laba/Chmelar
FIRST PAIR: Gavrikov/Fox
SECOND PAIR: Fortescue/Schneider
THIRD PAIR: Robertson/Borgen
STARTING GOALIE: Quick
BACKUP GOALIE: CZAR IGOR
HEALTHY SCRATCHES: Iorio, Raddysh, Vaakainanen, Garand and Edstrom
IR: Matt Rempe

Saturday’s game was broadcasted on ESPN – and the second when P.K. Slewban was referred to as “THE SUBBINATOR” by Steve Levy – then I muted the entire thing.
That said, and just based on the visuals that were appearing on my screen – then in a rarity – and this wasn’t a Blueshirts’-based broadcast on the world-wide network.
Obviously, with Detroit in the playoff mix, then they took the bulk of the attention.
There was also a nice piece on one of my favorite players, #88, one of the greatest Americans to ever do it – and a player that the Rangers should’ve never let walk too – Patrick Kane.
The All Detroit, All The Time, theme continued – and as mentioned about 79867867669 times already with McDonough.
And again – while the word “shutout” should’ve never been uttered – but I had no problem with ESPN pimping the Red Wings all-day.
I was just glad to see the Rangers flip the script on everyone.
Around this same time, then on Tweeter/X and people told me that both Wince “FEED ME MORE” Mercogliano, and the useless airhead, Ms. Giggles, Mollie Walker, took the day off.
Three home games left in the season and this terrible tandem couldn’t be bothered to do their jobs.
They’ll get that Elmer Ferguson Award just yet!
I was later told that Wince “Copy & Paste From Natural Stat Trick” Mercogliano, who previously left his post for six-weeks due to paternity leave, was celebrating one of his kid’s birthdays.
I’m not going to knock a guy for being a family man.
In fact, kudos to him – he has his priorities right.
I’ll just tell you that Phil Esposito, in his own autobiography (“Thunder & Lightning”), talked about how his job as a player was so important to him, so much so, that he missed the births of his children.
While I do think missing the birth of your own kid is a tad extreme; but taking six-weeks off for paternity leave sounds very fruit-booty – and especially when the Rangers are off for six months.
I’d love to know what Esposito thinks of Mercogliano – but yeah – what a world – the times have sure changed!
And I do think that in this instance, then they’ve changed for the better too.
Up next was Emily Kaplan’s report on Quick – and where she told us nothing – that is, outside of that nobody knows what Quick is thinking right now.
I could’ve told you that!
Heck, I’ve been doing that!
Kaplan, who I do think does a good job, now reminds me of Catherine O’Hara’s character (Moira Rose) from “Schitt’s Creek” – she has a new hairstyle (and color) on every broadcast.
That ESPN stylist budget must be legendary!
GAME REVIEW time!
You know my usual spiel – which includes how if you want my complete play-by-play, then check out my Tweeter/X feed over at: https://x.com/NYCTheMiC
Let the rolling commence!

FIRST PERIOD
Despite another house that didn’t sell-out (17,292 of a possible 18,006) (and as mentioned last time – then I wonder what the Easter Sunday attendance figure will be against Washington), and the Garden Faithful were loud – as not even a minute in and we heard booming “POTVIN SUCKS!” chants.
While I’m not a fan of that chant personally; it just told me that this crowd would be lively.
As Quick made his first save at the 1:40 mark, then yeah – I was hoping for the Wings to win at the time.
After all, I’m TEAM TANK – and better than that?
A Detroit win would’ve hurt the Islanders.
But of course, then I’m elated about what I saw on Saturday (outside of McDonough) – and I’m happy that the Blueshirts eventually prevailed.
(And hopefully Columbus will knock the Isles out of the playoffs too!)
The Rangers got the first power-play of the game at the 3:54 mark when former Blueshirt, Andrew “ROBO” Copp, tripped Lafreniere.
Sully’s man-up teams had a decent effort here – and then saw Gibson stop Fox with 1:00 left on it.
For whatever reason, we had our first of many scrambles and scrums – and where ESPN decided to censor all of the F-BOMBS that were being belted out by the players on both sides.
End result, an 0/1 Rangers’ power-play.
At the 8:10 mark, Quick made his second save of the game and where the SOG totals were now two a side.
A few seconds later and we had our second scrum of the game – and where it was just a shame that these two teams wore their traditional jerseys today – and not the more colorful ones that we saw last time:

After ESPN reminded us that the Rangers suck hairy phallus shaped objects; then come the 10:00 mark and both goalies had three saves each.
As the Blueshirts’ top line were creating chances and building pressure, then with 8:15 remaining and Drew Fortescue broke up a Detroit 2 x 1 odd-man rush opportunity.
Soon thereafter?
The Chmelar goal – and where in real-time – ESPN, because of their terrible production, missed the play.
Here’s the edited version:

1-0, GOOD GUYS.
Oh yeah, this too:
Chemlar > Brennan Othmann.
Heck, Sykora > Othmann.
Hell, me and you > Othmann!
Immediately afterwards?
Quick absolutely robbed Emmitt Finnie on a trick shot attempt.
The Wings got their first power-play of the game with 4:47 to go, as we had some J.T. on J.T. violence – as J.T. Miller interfered with J.T. Compher.
The Blueshirts’ penalty kill, lights-out today, didn’t even allow SOG here – much less allow Detroit to set-up either.
A brutal and god-awful Big Billy Borgen turnover, committed with 96-seconds remaining, should’ve led to a Perron goal – but there was Quick, with his ski mask on, for the robbery save.
1-0, home team, after twenty-minutes.
Here’s what I said at the time:
1-0, #NYR, after 20. 1P Thoughts:
— I don’t know if Quick said anything to his his teammates about this being his last game at M$G – but either way -and the Rangers have actually showed up for a first period.
— For a Wings’ team looking to end a 9-year playoff drought – then…— BlueCollarBlueShirts (@NYCTheMiC) April 4, 2026

SECOND PERIOD
Mika, from the place where season ticket holders always take it up the ass like its a 24/7 Pride Night, was beat by Copp at the dot to begin the frame.
The Wings, perhaps embarrassed a bit by their first period performance, opened hot – but Quick was sizzlin’.
By the 4:00 mark, Quick had survived everything – including another one of Dylan Larkin’s game-high seven shots on goal.
The Detroit captain went 0/7 on his SOG.
Perreault?
A shooting percentage of .500! (Hat trick off of a Rangers’ game-high six shots on goal.)
Speaking of Larkin, then he was shaken up at the 6:20 mark – as Borgen just crushed him into the corner boards to the right of Quick.
This was a clean hit – but a painful one too.
(Larkin, who looked dazed, missed one shift while on the bench, then returned with no issue. Glad to hear that he’s okay.)
As Sully continued to roll out all four lines – then the fourth line remained as electric – and where I thought everyone else was feeding off of them too.
Maybe that’s what I wanted to believe – but can you argue otherwise?
As we approached the mid-way point of the game/period, then the fourth line kicked off an attack that lasted for over 2:00 – and they were able to change for the Miller line too.
As both goalies exchanged saves, then with 6:56 remaining, Fortescue was boxed for slashing Raymond – but you wouldn’t have known that in real-time – as ESPN decided to take a commercial break here.
Perron had one lame tip-in try during these 2:00 and that was that – as the Rangers’ powerful penalty kill just owned the Wings’ pathetic power-play again.
And once returned to even-strength?
The Natural Hat Trick Show – Starring Gabe Perreault:

— Joe Tolleson (@joetolleson) April 4, 2026
2-0, GOOD GUYS.
Hell of a pass from Mika – but a better finish from Perreault!
Down to 3:32 remaining and Quick, after another stop on Larkin, then saw another scrum take place near his net – this time after Larkin, when looking for retaliation, cross-checked Borgen in the ribs.
No penalty call.
And it was also at this time, with over 23:00 left to play, when that slack-jawed vile creature, Sean McDonough, jerked himself off to kingdom come when talking about Quick’s “SHUTOUT.”
What a freakin’ asshole – have I mentioned this yet?
Come 2:25 remaining – and Mika was forcing it.
Despite being wide-open, and he tried to set-up Perreault again.
This was all fine-and-dandy in a 2-0 game – and you could see that Mika wanted to be selfless when trying to boost up his rookie winger.
But had this been a close game in a season that mattered?
Then you would’ve felt like how fans of the Red Wings are feeling right now!
2-0, through forty-minutes of action.
Here’s what I said at the time:
2-0, #NYR, through 40 minutes – and where you can hear the Wing fans booing their team off of the ice too. 2P Thoughts:
— We’ll hear in the near-future that the Rangers wanted to win this game for Quick – in what will be confirmed as his last start ever at M$G.
— I don’t know…— BlueCollarBlueShirts (@NYCTheMiC) April 4, 2026

THIRD PERIOD
Right away and McDonough was right back to using the word “shutout.”
Come the end of the game, then I was hoping that he’d be castrated – and worse than that – then be forced to listen to a podcast featuring Whiny Wince and Voice Fry Mollie!
Miller, who did end the game on a high note, made five brutal turnovers – and where on his fourth – Perron missed the net – and as he did at the 2:00 mark.
Gibson, who tried to carry his team to victory, made two of his best saves at the 3:35 mark, as he first stopped a Fox deflection goal try, followed by Lafreniere-to-Perreault one-timer from his door step.
As the Wings were ramping-and-revving up a bit, then Sheary & Mika made sure Detroit couldn’t capitalize during a frenetic play at Quick’s net at the 5:00 mark.
Soon thereafter?
Cuylle opening up a can of whoop-ass:

— Jonny Lazarus (@JLazzy23) April 4, 2026
And on the ensuring Rangers’ power-play?
Perreault’s second of three:
— BlueCollarBlueShirts (@NYCTheMiC) April 4, 2026
3-0, GOOD GUYS.
You I would’ve been nicer to McDonough had Detroit scored prior to the Rangers’ fourth goal.
Had the Wings scored during the next few minutes – then you would’ve just blamed a Blueshirt.
Down to 11:41 remaining, Sheary was sent off for high-sticking – a dumb penalty to say the least considering the situation (up 3-0, the Quick shutout).
The Rangers’ PK was once again fantastic.
3/3 on the PK at this point.
The Wings got another power-play with 6:05 remaining when Laba went off for high-sticking.
Again, careless and unnecessary – and especially even more so since this was an o-zone penalty.
Down by three and desperately needing a miracle – and Gibson left his net for the extra attacker.
The Rangers’ PK soon finished up these next two crucial minutes by going 4/4 on their PK – and this is when Ferraro called out McDonough too.
Once returned to even-strength, then Detroit left their net empty.
Quick got a stop with 2:29 to go and because the Wings had all of their top guys out there, then their head coach, Todd McLellan, used his timeout in order to get them a rest/reset.
During this stoppage, then this is when McDonough made mention that Quick was looking for the 66th shutout of his career.
What was this guy thinking?
While Quick was jinxed by this dumbass; Perreault would not be denied of history:
It’s a Gabe Perreault 1st NHL Hat Trick!
4-0 #NYR! pic.twitter.com/UeluZoxDxm
— Lydia Pirner (@LPirner) April 4, 2026
4-0, GOOD GUYS.
Only McDonough’s curse, the Perron 4-1 goal, ruined some Disney Magic on M$G ice.
But again – fans, like yours truly, cared more about Quick getting a shutout than he did.
This was as good of a win as any this season – but where I don’t want jump the gun and anoint Perreault as the face of this franchise any time soon – and for all of the reasons as previously described in the past (I’ve seen this before)!
4-1, GOOD GUYS, your final.

Here are the two heroes of the game, post-win – and where notice how Quick swatted away all questions about his future:
Here’s word-salad Sully:
