Greetings and salutations everyone and welcome to another blog here on BlueCollarBlueShirts.com. Gross.
No joke, and Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to the Bolts, and where the black-and-white final score is way too kind to what we actually saw in living color, was just as bad as waking up on the Friday after Thanksgiving – then finding out that you have no leftovers remaining in your fridge.
And once being unable to make yourself a turkey sandwich?
Then this loss also felt like walking on a million Legoes after your decision to make a crusty old peanut butter and jelly sandwich instead.
Another result of this pathetic showing?
Then the Rangers (28-points) are only one-point above last-place in the Metrosexual division, but they’ve also played two more games (27) than the Columbus Blue Jackets (27-points in 25 games played).
Add that all up – then for all of you “Blueshirt Believers” – and a playoff berth seems highly unlikely right now – especially when you consider that not only do the Rangers need to go on an epic winning streak – but they’ll also need about 7-10 other teams to lose – and not get overtime loser points either.
Egads.

As I was watching the Rangers look like pulverized zombie extras straight out of “The Walking Dead,” then one question kept repeating throughout my head for about sixty-minutes:
How in the hell did the Rangers beat these same Lightning some two-weeks ago – and as they did by a 7-3 final, back on November 12th – and in Tampa no less?!?!?!
As Mike S. responded to me on X (where I posed the same question), then it was the obvious answer:
“They were on the road.”
Following Saturday afternoon’s mess of a matinee, then I saw a lot of Ranger fans, and M$GN employees (primarily Dave Starman) alike, all make excuses for the Blueshirts, empty words such as these:
— The Rangers were playing their third game in four days.
— The schedule has been too tough on them.
— You can’t expect them to win every game (no shit!)
Lost in all of that were these accompanying truths:
— The Lightning were also playing in their third game in four days (a win over the Flames on 11/26 and a 6-3 victory in Detroit on Black Friday) – and guess what – then after their 4-1 drubbing of the Blueshirts – they’ve now won SEVEN, count ’em, SEVEN, games in a row!
— As opposed to the Rangers who are only missing fourth line forward Matt Rempe due to injury, then the Bolts are banged-up beyond belief. Not only are they missing half of their defense, their three top rearguards at that too (Ryan McDonagh, Erik Cernak and Victor Hedman), but they were also without their first line center as well, Brayden Point.
— Despite CZAR IGOR going back-to-back (and where of course – he was the best Ranger on this date too) – and Tampa started their back-up goalie, Jonas Johansson, for this match.
(And as previously noted on this site – we’re now seeing a bunch of teams, and whether it be east coast coast or west coast squadrons, starting their back-up goalie against the soon-to-be last-place again Rangers – then saving their starter for the other local teams and/or the other game of a back-to-back set.)
So yeah – save me all of the EXCUSES – as none of them are warranted.
Not at all, not one iota, none whatsoever!

Before pressing on and examining this latest tragedy on ice, then just a few remarks regarding Friday’s 6-2 win in Boston.
I honestly didn’t take many notes from the game because after all – I was at the bar with my friends and family – and that came first.
But really, the Rangers SHOULD have won the game – and the Vegas bookmakers thought so too -as the Blueshirts were 2:1 favorites, while also being favored -125 (risk $125 to win $100) to win by two or more goals.
After all, the B’s were missing all of their name-brand talent, including their 1-2 punch of David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy.
Another big name that was missing in action was the mini-Ranger killer known as Pavel Zacha, Pavel Zacha, dormez-vous, dormez-vous.
And as it was on Saturday with a back-up goalie in the opposing net, and Boston used their back-up goalie too – Jonas Korpisalo – while saving starter Jeremy Swayman for their Saturday match against the much more threatening Detroit Red Wings (and a division opponent).
While Boston has been over-achieving a lot this season, then it should also be reminded to you that they are currently a team in a rebuild state – and as the trade of their captain, Brad Marchand, from last season’s trade deadline, suggests.
No joke?
Then even for this ardent fan of the league – and I didn’t recognize a slew of names that were in the Bruins’ line-up on Friday afternoon.
In turn, and the Blueshirts did what they were supposed to do – THE FAT CATS dominated an opponent that was mainly fielding a roster of AHLers.
Behind a season-high 36 shots on goal (which is pretty much three games worth of SOG for this silly Sully’s Squad) and the Rangers were able to cruise by their Original Six rivals by a 6-2 final.
Once the contest reached its completion, I then told my dad and my good pal, the affable “Ten O’Clock Tommy,” enjoy it now – because they’ll lose on Saturday.
What an optimist!
But what a realist too.

Some 24-hours removed from one of their most well-rounded wins of the season (and again – you must consider the quality of opposition – but you can only play what’s sent out against you too) – and the Blueshirts crapped on all feelings of positivity with another dreadful home loss.
From start-to-finish – and the Bolts just dominated the Rangers – and in every which way and fashion too.
While the final score says 4-1 – but in reality – it felt like 400-1 – as Tampa had a few <DINGS> in there and about 70678696867986798 shots that were either blocked or sent wide – including one time where Jake Guentzel didn’t hit the net on a breakaway.
The shots on goal totals were the most pathetic of the season – and that says a lot – as the Rangers are the worst in the league in this department:
— The Rangers were out-shot 11-2 in the first period – and where their second shot on goal of the frame took place with only five-seconds remaining.
— The Bolts out-shot the Blueshirts 16-7 in the second stanza.
— Come the do-or-die final frame, and the Rangers were out-shot at a 2:1 clip, 8-4.
— The Rangers, who were ultimately out-shot 35-13, were only able to crack double-digits because they pulled CZAR IGOR with 2:35 remaining.
According to John Giannone during the post-game show, he said that the Rangers paltry sum of a lowly thirteen shots on goal marked the fifth-fewest in franchise history – and of these one hundred years – that includes a lot of the dead puck era – and during a time period where the forward pass was outlawed too!
And need I remind you again that the Bolts were without four of their starters, while employing their back-up goalie too?!?!?!?!

One more time – the Rangers have NO EXCUSES at all.
For sixty-minutes – and outside of the goalie, and to a lesser extent, Taylor Raddysh too – and M$G patrons, who pay the most money in the league in order to attend games where the Rangers call home, were pretty much basted like a turkey.
Worse than that?
Then such a proverbial basting may as well have been with a hockey stick – and a goalie’s stick at that!
The alleged sexual assaulter, and the man with the confirmed NDA, Artemi Panarin, did absolutely nothing on Saturday – that is – outside of finishing as a minus-one.
He also challenged a back-up goalie twice – and during the final seconds of both the second and third periods (2 SOG in total).
What a way to get a new contract extension!
As previously noted on this site, then the word in Rangerstown, USA, and word that originated where all news begins, Canada – and apparently, and despite team owner James Dolan issuing a cease-talk on all things sexual assault related – and Panarin, already the highest-paid player on the team ($11.67M annually) wants a raise as he enters his twilight years.
In a new development, but one that just reached these shores a few days ago, then on November 20th, former Ranger Alexei Kovalev, who is close to Panarin (if you recall, then during COVID, and Kovalev, a pilot, had Panarin as one of his passengers), told Russian hockey site, RG.org, that Panarin wouldn’t be opposed to leaving the NHL.
According to Kovalev, then Panarin would entertain offers from any of the Russian KHL teams this summer should he remain unsigned come free agency.
Kovalev, when trying to stay on both sides of the fence, then added, “I don’t know if these rumors are true, but that’s what people here [in Russia] are saying.”
In addition, and it only took her nine-days too (give her a standing ovation), and Mollie Walker of the New York Post then picked up this story – and presented it as her own – and for good measure – behind a paywall too!
Larry Brooks would be proud!
And at this rate?
If Panarin, who is currently the biggest name available come this season’s trade deadline, isn’t going to stay – then if he does go Russia – then at least it wouldn’t hurt the Rangers.
After all, then if Panarin does stay in the NHL, and if he does go elsewhere – then just know that he’ll light it up – and always against the Blueshirts!
That’s just the way it goes!

As I was wondering how the Rangers would do had Adam Fox, Vladislav Gavrikov, Will Borgen and Vincent Trocheck were all out, which would be the Blueshirts’ equivalent of what the Bolts had missing on Saturday (top three defensemen and a first line center) – and Tampa was hellbent on picking up a wire-to-wire victory – while absolutely dominating all facets of the game too.
Tampa came out like gangbusters – and where it was a complete shock that they didn’t have a field goal lead by the time that they scored their first goal – and as new Ranger Killer, Brandon Hagel, scored at the 10:53 mark of the first period.
This goal, scored on Tampa’s tenth shot, also meant that the Bolts had as many goals as the Rangers had shots on goal.
It was also a fluky deflection score too – as Hagel’s shot had hit Carson Soucy’s skate before going behind CZAR IGOR.
1-0, Bolts.
Some five-minutes later, the 15:48 mark to be specific, and despite everything – and the Rangers had a chance to tie – as Charle-Edouard D’Astous slashed Panarin – and a dubious call that favored the home team too.
Despite this fortunate opportunity – and the Rangers didn’t challenge the back-up goalie in Tampa’s net.
Two-minutes later – no tying goal – much less a shot on goal.
The only thing that the Rangers’ power-play did was kill some clock – so much so, that following Hagel’s goal, then Tampa’s next shot of the period, their last, took place with 66-seconds remaining – a CZAR IGOR glove save on Nikita Kucherov.
These two teams traded goals in the middle minutes of the match – but where it was still “Same Old Rangers.”
After being unable to score on their first power-play of the game (Matt Robertson for holding Dominic James at the 4:16 mark), then come the 8:57 mark of this here second period – and Hagel scored again.
2-0, Bolts.
While CZAR IGOR did everything that he could when trying to carry these Blueshirt Bums – his hard work was not reciprocated.
On Hagel’s second, Tampa had two skaters down in front of CZAR IGOR, which then allowed Alexis Lafreniere to spearhead a 4 vs 3 odd-man attack.
Rather than pressing the issue and forcing a back-up goalie to make an odd-man rush save – and instead – and Lafreniere just dumped the puck for a turnover.
The other Raddysh, Taylor’s older brother Darren, retrieved the rubber, kicked it to Kucherov and then the only Russian skater that cared today found Hagel wide open for the breakaway.
CZAR IGOR stopped Hagel’s first try – but with no defense to speak of in front of him – then Hagel scored on his rebound.
Down to 2:29 remaining and where you were already flipping your remote to the college football games – and boom – “The Lone Ranger” goal.
While not truly “fluky,” but it was an Adam Fox shot, sent towards Double J.’s crease, that found the skate blade of J.T. Miller, which in turn, cut the Tampa lead to 2-1.
This was all Fox – and no ifs, ands or buts about it.
But it was also the only goal that the Rangers would score too.
The Lighting received a late power-play when down to 19-seconds remaining, and a frustrated CZAR IGOR tripped Hagel.
The Blueshirts killed off the first 19-seconds of this Tampa power-play, then during the first 1:41 that opened the third period, CZAR IGOR made four short-handed saves in order to bring the Rangers’ penalty kill to a perfect two of two.
And now with some alleged momentum after killing off the Tampa power-play?
Then it only took the Bolts twenty-seconds to regain their two-goal lead, as Kucherov found a wide-open Nick Paul for the easiest tap-in goal that you’ll ever see – so easy – that even my fat ass could’ve scored it – and from my couch!
3-1 – and if this game wasn’t already over, then it was donezo here.
Come 8:04 remaining and with this 3-1 score still in-tact, then Gage Goncalves held the stick of Raddysh – which in turn – the Rangers were still alive – as a power-play goal would’ve returned this game to a one-goal deficit – and perhaps a deficit that could’ve been erased with some empty net (6 x 5) heroics.
Yeah right.
After all, the Rangers without Fox, as just prior to the infraction, and Hagel, after a clean hit, erased #23 from the rest of the game:
Looked like Adam Fox’s left arm gets crunched by Hagel.
He’s still in the #NYR locker room. pic.twitter.com/jvaQLfA69S
— Jonny Lazarus (@JLazzy23) November 29, 2025
To just jump ahead a bit, then Fox, as noted, never returned.
Following the game, then Sullivan said what you’d expect him to say, “Fox is being evaluated with an upper-body injury, day-to-day.”
In a word, then if Fox is to miss any significant amount of time, then the Rangers will be “fucked.”
(And since the Rangers are off on Sunday, then we probably won’t get an update on Fox’s status until Monday, when the team reconvenes for practice at their training facility in Tarrytown.)

The Blueshirts, down by two goals, had this power-play with 8:04 remaining, then once failing, then had the final 2:35 of a 6 x 5 empty net attack.
On the power-play – and Sully opted to use five forwards (Mika, Panarin, Miller, Cuylle and Trocheck).
Come the 6 x 5 and Lafreniere, the sixth member of the top-six, was added.
In other words, then not one defenseman on the ice for the Rangers during these two pivotal moments, which kind of tells you that Sully doesn’t trust anyone else to spear-head the power-play besides the 2021 Norris Trophy winner.
While you can understand the strategy when down by two, but even if he’s a textbook definition of a “defensive defenseman,” then hasn’t Gavrikov showed us some of his offensive chops this season – and even as recent as this past week?
The end result of all of these man-advantages?
NADA – and where Guentzel put the Rangers out of their misery for good with just 18-ticks left, following his 4-1 empty netter.
And how about Taylor’s brother?
Darren Raddysh, formerly with the Rangers’ organization, picked up three assists and five shots on goal – and where both of these figures were game-highs.
The Blueshirts?
Then all of their top-six sans Panarin (-1), finished with -2’s next to their names.
And poor CZAR IGOR – as 31 saves weren’t enough.
Johansson’s twelve saves were more than adequate enough to stunt these woe-is-me Rangers.
Lastly when closing this intro?
Then due to the Rangers’ lack of effort and overall desire to win – and we now have a new contender for “worst loss of the season.”
In case you missed it, then here’s where I last left off, the Rangers upset win in Carolina on Thanksgiving Eve:

Following the win on Friday and the 45-minute flight back to New York that transpired afterwards, then come Saturday morning and Sullivan held a brief press conference.
During his tea-time chat, Sullivan confirmed that CZAR IGOR would start the second-half of this back-to-back set – and his first start of this variety this season.
Elsewhere, and Sullivan confirmed that Borgen had been removed from the team’s injured reserve list and how the d-man, who had missed the past five games, would be a game-time decision.
(And as you know by now – and Borgen did return on Saturday afternoon.)
As far as anything else, then Sullivan wasn’t committed to giving Dylan Garand a start at all.
Instead, and with no more back-to-backs until the weekend, and the head coach hinted that Jonathan Quick should be back soon – but where he also didn’t rule out giving CZAR IGOR another pair of starts on back-to-back nights either.
Here are all of Sullivan’s pregame remarks prior to this mess – and a mess so bad that the Rangers should refund any Blueshirts’ backer who paid real cash money to attend this game:
Here was Sully’s line-up for the twenty-seventh game of this 2025-26 season:
FIRST LINE: Lafreniere/Zibanejad/Miller
SECOND LINE: Panarin/Trocheck/Cuylle
THIRD LINE: Berard/Laba/Brodzinski
FOURTH LINE: Edstrom/Carrick/Raddysh
FIRST PAIR: Gavrikov/Fox
SECOND PAIR: Soucy/Borgen
THIRD PAIR: Robertson/Schneider
STARTING GOALIE: CZAR IGOR
BACK UP GOALIE: Dylan Garand
HEALTHY SCRATCHES: Connor Sheary, Scott Morrow and Urho Vaakainainen
INJURED RESERVE: Jonathan Quick
LTIR: Matt Rempe

We had our 7867986976986th different broadcasting crew of the season on Saturday – and all of this rotation isn’t a bad thing either.
With Dave “Riiiiiiight?” Maloney presumably off due to the holiday, then Brian Boyle joined John “I Have A New Gambling Show on the M$GN” Giannone upstairs.
Once the game commenced, then Boyle joined Kenny Albert – which also meant that this match marked Albert’s first Saturday game of the season. (I presume he’s calling a local NFL game on Sunday – if at all – as perhaps the Thanksgiving holiday, and the four games played as a result, may allow him to have a rare Sunday away from the gridiron.)
Starman, who did all of the studio analyst work today, then talked up new Tampa defender, Steve Santini.
Starman, who coaches too, had previously coached Santini in Long Beach (Long Island) – and where Albert later told us that Pete Stemkowski, local to the area, told him that Santini’s father and grandfather used to run the Long Beach rink – and one where the Emile Francis era of Rangers used to call home (practice rink before Tarrytown).
Reader Joe L. first brought this up to me – and he was right.
It said a lot about Tampa bench boss Jon Cooper when he dressed Santini.
Granted, while the injuries in Lightning Land was a large part of it; but still, he could’ve decided to use someone else.
For a comparison, then previously this season, and Mike Sullivan made Matthew Robertson a healthy scratch when the Rangers were in Edmonton – Roberston’s hometown.
And as I said then – players are aware of this stuff – and it does impact morale.
As Boyle recapped all of the injuries in Tampa, then the former Ranger added that Panarin has been on fire during the past thirteen games.
Of course, that statement was a falsehood – as all Panarin does is pad a bunch of points against bad and/or injured teams.
And just as it was against the Islanders, the Knights, the Mammoth, the Avalanche, and so on and so forth – and NADA once again, this time, against the Bolts.
GAME REVIEW time, and where as always, you can find all of my live commentary on my Tweeter/X page too: https://x.com/NYCTheMiC
And with the way this game went – then I’m going to gloss over a lot – so if you do want the complete play-by-play, then go there – as I don’t have it in me to rewrite it all again – not after this.

FIRST PERIOD
With CZAR IGOR v. Double J. in nets, then it was noticeable when Sullivan gave his third line the start – and where Noah Laba made good on this decision – as he won the first draw of the match.
But after that?
Well you know – not much winning from the Rangers’ end of things – to say the least!
Boyle, already in damage control mode, brought up that the early start on the second-half of a back-to-back could mean a slow Rangers’ start – but nary a word that Tampa was playing under the exact same circumstances – and on the road to boot.
As it would be all game, and Tampa just dominated, as CZAR IGOR had already amassed seven saves before the the 7:00 mark had even hit.
Conversely, and JJ didn’t even see a shot attempt.
Down to 12:30 remaining and the Rangers received a break – as Guentzel went wide on a breakaway. On the next Tampa possession, then a Kucherov-to-Hagel try just went wide too.
As we hit 10:31 to go – and Carson Soucy recorded the Rangers’ first SOG. Yes, Carson Soucy – and not one member of the Rangers’ top-six.
After that, and with 9:07 remaining and this is when Igor was screened, Soucy tried to flamingo and Hagel scored:
“Left circle to Hagel, SHOOTS SCORREEE!!!”
Hagel opens the scoring and now owns goals in five straight games!#TBLvsNYR

1-0, Bolts – and not many SOG from either side afterwards.
In fact, only one more for each side – and that includes the Rangers not challenging a back-up goalie once during their power-play.
Another shot that didn’t count as a SOG?
When Zemgus Girgensons hit Igor’s post with 5:20 remaining.
The final two SOG of the period saw Igor stop Kucherov with 66-seconds remaining – then Panarin being stopped by JJ with just five-ticks left on the clock.
1-0, Tampa, after 20.
Here’s what I said at the time:
1-0, Bolts, after 20. 1P Thoughts:
— SOG are 11-2, Tampa, #NYR second SOG cme with five seconds left — JJ save on Panarin.
— Could easily be 3-0 or more – Guentzel wide on a breakaway and Girgensons hit a post
— NYR PP 0-1 – no SOG during it either.
— Tampa are missing…— BlueCollarBlueShirts (@NYCTheMiC) November 29, 2025

SECOND PERIOD
The Tampa domination continued – including when they just missed a rebound goal at the 20-second mark.
After that?
Then nothing but elongated Lightning attacks – and where the majority of them ended with Igor saves, Ranger blocks and Tampa shooting wide.
During the Robertson penalty and Raddysh may have gotten away with a hook or a hold, but the refs let them play.
In turn, this short-handed attack was the best shot that the Rangers had at JJ yet.
It should also be mentioned that while the Rangers’ PK went 1-1 here, but at the same time – and Tampa primarily used their second man-up quintet, as all of their top guys were out there for a long time prior to the Robertson penalty.
Come 11:03 remaining – Lafreniere’s latest flub – and where as a result – another opposing goal allowed too:
BRANDON HAGEL AGAIN!!!
The @TBLightning are up 2-0!
📺: #NHLNShowcase on NHL Network https://t.co/Lq1AVwcPJp pic.twitter.com/gOvlGtFN6v
— NHL Media (@NHLMedia) November 29, 2025
2-0 Bolts – and two goals for Hagel – and two assists a piece for both Raddysh and Kucherov too.
At the halfway mark of this game and period, and the Bolts, still up 2-0, were also out-shooting the Rangers to a tune of 18-4.
Yes, only four shots on goal in thirty-minutes.
As we approached 7:45 remaining, the Rangers teased us a bit.
Cirelli lost his lumber, Mika whiffed on a shot attempt, Miller was stripped and then JJ froze the puck to put an end to all of that.
A minute later, and Berard, after giving a hit, looked injured.
I think he missed one shift – and then returned without issue.
With the bad and boring Blueshirts stinking out the joint, then Albert and Boyle gave us their ode to the legacy of Steve Santini.
As we found out about every third-cousin and in-law in Santini’s family tree – then this is when Fox found Miller for the flukish (but they all count) goal:
The @NYRangers are on the board courtesy of their captain!
📺: #NHLNShowcase on NHL Network https://t.co/2kuAtgiWsm pic.twitter.com/Yb1iiHcogV
— NHL Media (@NHLMedia) November 29, 2025
2-1, Bolts.
To close the period, then this is when CZAR IGOR tripped Hagel.
2-1, through 40.
Here’s what I said at the time:
2-1, them, after 40, 2P Thoughts:
— TBL opens 3P on a 1:42 PP
— SOG are 25-7, Bolts, and where Tampa has one DING and about 838388383 shots that went wide
— Amazing this isn’t a 7-1 game right now – and where the Lone Ranger goal was all about Fox.
— Crazy that one shot…— BlueCollarBlueShirts (@NYCTheMiC) November 29, 2025

THIRD PERIOD
After a short-handed try by Cuylle, then CZAR IGOR made four consecutive saves, and in about a time-span of ten-seconds too, in order to kill his own penalty (Berard served it).
But once returned to even-strength – and that was that:
“Centers it, SCORREEE!!! NICK PAUL!!!”
Paul tucks a goal to add to the lead!#TBLvsNYR

📻: @1025TheBone pic.twitter.com/LJjhd1QWtS— Lightning Audio Network (@BoltsRadio) November 29, 2025
3-1, Bolts – and just 2:02 into this final frame.
Come 13:29 remaining, then two things:
One, this is when Fox went down – and obviously – let’s hope that he doesn’t miss any time.
Two, the Bolts were out-shooting the Blueshirts at a 4:1 clip – or 32-8 officially.
32-8!!!!
When the Rangers went on their second power-play with 8:04 remaining, and the SOG total was now 33-8.
INSANITY!
And once again, it’s great for Raddysh when he’s the most effective forward (he drew this penalty), but that’s terrible for the Rangers.
I covered everything else worth noting above.
4-1, Bolts, your final.
This was horrifying, disgusting, disappointing, pathetic, and downright unacceptable.
Refunds should be offered – and I don’t care what precedent that would set either.

Up Next For the Blueshirts: Tuesday night, hosting a red-hot Dallas Stars team.
I talked about this on Monday night, but the first two weeks of December is going to be rough riding for the Rangers – and just like any other stretch of the season for these centennial Blueshirts.
After Dallas, then the Rangers will play Ottawa, Colorado, Vegas, Chicago, Montreal and then on December 15th, the granddaddy of them all – the Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba Anaheim Ducks.

Hopefully Shesterkin berates his teammates after a game like that. Absolutely pathetic. And I agree, refunds should be given to the fans. Their goalie could have had an occasional coffee break during the game, it was that bad with just 13 shots. You would think that by winning almost 2/3 of the faceoffs it would have been a better outcome for the Rangers.
