Weekend Wrap-Up: The Giants & Looking Ahead, The Knicks, The Rangers & More

I like to look at this picture after Giants games to keep my sanity

Welcome to another article here on the new DOINOW.com. I appreciate all your support and for checking this site out during your day. Help spread the word by telling your friends and enemies all about us here. If you get time and you’re new, make sure to check out the archives on the right hand of the site for other NY sports-related articles.

It’s a tough time for NY sports, as I’ve mentioned in other columns. Yankees & Mets are coming off atrocious seasons. Playoff football in NY ended around Election Day. The Knicks and Nets? N-word please! The only thing worth talking about right now are the hockey clubs in NY.

The Giants delivered another one of their patented shit-show performances on Sunday, 11/30. This one was even more disgusting than usual, as they lost to the lowly 1-10 Jacksonville Jaguars. Can you even name 5 Jaguars? Can you even name one person that you know that is a Jaguars fan?

I’ve talked about this before and I won’t rehash it again, you can check out the archives for that, but this is just a lost season for the Giants. When Josh Brown missed an easy field goal, that would’ve given the Giants some breathing room, I just laughed. This season has been over since the 28-0 Eagles loss on Sunday night. The Giants are in the middle of a 7 game losing streak, and I hope they wind up losing their next four games too. There is no difference in being 3-13, 4-12 or 5-11, except in one department – the NFL Draft.

The Giants have been killed by the injury bug this season. However, every team goes through that. It’s no secret – Perry Fewell has to go at the end of the season. There is no point in firing him now and paying someone else. Let Fewell go down with the ship and let the NFL know why he got his pink slip. I’ve argued for Rex Ryan as the next Giants DC (Check the archives) and while I don’t think it will happen, it would benefit himself and the Giants.

The defense has been atrocious and horrible all year. They can’t stop anything. After a while, you start to feel bad for them because they look like down syndrome handicapped kids out there. You just want to tell them, “We’re proud of you for trying.” It’s just not going to happen this year.

Everyone was confident and chest bumping, going into the locker room at the half, with the Giants leading 21-0.  It didn’t take long for the Jaguars to blow holes through the Giants defense like a liquor store in Ferguson.

I’ve seen many Giant fans blame Eli Manning. Are you nuts? It’s not his fault the defense can’t make a stop and gave up 25 second half points. It’s not his fault, when trying to lead a game winning drive, there are three defensive players in the backfield and not one Giants lineman to be seen.

Remember this: Eli Manning won you two Superbowls. Not too many people can say that about their favorite quarterback. Just imagine being a Jets, Eagles or Cowboys fan!
This is why you don’t fire Tom Coughlin

While I’ve seen people dumping on Eli Manning, I’ve also seen some animals go after Tom Coughlin. Again, how many coaches in this league have won two Superbowls? Those rings gives him respectability and credibility.

In this NFL, there is a salary cap that prevents teams from building dynasties. Every successful team is stripped at the end of every season because of the cap. Unfortunately, there is no rule that allows teams to go over the cap to keep homegrown talent. You’re going to lose guys after you win the Superbowl. It sucks, but that is the sport. It will be tough for a team to go back-to-back, never mind seeing a three-peat in the NFL. Even as good as the Patriots teams have been since the Belicheck/Brady era, they have only won 3 Superbowls in 12 years.

Giant fans are frustrated, and rightfully so. The Giants either are in the playoffs and win it all or getting obliterated. There is no middle ground. It’s not like they are a perennial playoff team like the Patriots, Packers, Steelers, etc. However, the Giants have won 2 Superbowls in the last 7 years. No other team can say that.

On this blog, I have given Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist a lot of shit for not winning a Cup. The reason I do so is because he has the highest contract in the league. (Check the archives for my full column on this subject.) I don’t understand how you can call yourself a King, demand the most money in the league at the expense of your team and never win a cup. In the case of Eli & Coughlin, they are Hall of Famers. Eli is the best QB the Giants have ever had. Coughlin is not Parcells, but he is a close number 2, with just as bright of a coaching career to his name.

This is a lost season. Tank, baby, tank. There is no point beating tomato can teams. Draft picks are the best inexpensive talent you can procure in this league. A #2 overall pick is heads and shoulders above a #7-8 pick.

When the Giants lost against the pathetic Jaguars on Sunday, I wasn’t mad. You can’t win it all every year. It’s time to move on and look ahead. The Giants, in recent times, have given us two amazing days in our lives. They get a pass here. The Giants have rebounded strongly before and there is nothing to indicate they won’t again.
#KNICKSRAPED yet again

The Knicks. LOL. I’m not even wasting my time! Said it once, I’ll say it again – the Knicks will never win a title with Carmelo Anthony. It’s going to be a loooooooooong season Knicks fans. Hopefully the NY sports media will start talking Rangers & Islanders soon, and give those teams the rightful attention they deserve.
Perhaps Glass can give Hank the Mumps on Monday

As you all know from reading the archives (I’m doing a hell of a job plugging the archives, in hopes of establishing a reader-writer bond with you, where you know where I’m coming from at all times), I am a Cam Talbot fan. As the Rangers head to battle this Monday night against the Tampa Bay Lighning, I hope to see #33 in the net, and not King Contract.

Just look at these stats:
Goaltender 1
Two Games vs Tampa – 9 Goals Allowed

One Game vs Philadelphia – 2 Goals Allowed

Goaltender 2
Two Games vs Philadelphia – 0 Goals Allowed, 2 Shutouts

Why shouldn’t Goaltender 2, Cam Talbot play on Monday night? Hank has been awful THIS YEAR, compared to the back-up goalie. Hank is ranked in the 20’s in the league in all the meaningful stats – GAA and SVpctg. This contract is going to hurt the Rangers. Let’s see what Talbot can do.

The Rangers have already turned to Talbot twice this year after brutal losses. Why not give Talbot a chance against a team that Hank has struggled against all season? A long break, especially coming off a long season, could do Henry some good.

See ya Monday at MSG!
LGR!

Thanks for reading!
