NYR/LA Kings Review: Rangers Give New Rivals Two Points, Rusty Raanta, Why Does Mike Milbury Have a Job “An Exclusive Comment From Tanner Glass”, Isles Tell Their Fans To Shut Up & More

This horrible photoshop was done by me in 5 seconds. It shows! You get the point anyway!

What’s up everyone and welcome to another blog here on BlueCollarBlueShirts.com. I didn’t get a chance to recap the Pittsburgh Penguins game due to my busy work schedule. Just a couple of thoughts on that game:

  • Lundqvist looks to have gotten out of whatever funk plagued him for six weeks. Those soft goals that he’s so prone for needs to go bye-bye. The blowing the lead stuff has to stop. Giving up goals, within 90 seconds, after the Rangers score, has to be a distant memory. The last few games we haven’t seen much of any of this. That needs to continue. As much as I despise his contract, Lundqvist will need to be at the top of his game for the Rangers to make a Cup run. It is when Lundqvist cracks is when the Rangers fall apart in these playoff series. The Tampa series is all on Lundqvist for giving up 2 touchdowns in back-to-back games. Yes, the Rangers didn’t score, but that means Bishop did his job too. Lundqvist needs to be elite, especially for the money he demanded. The Kings series from 2014 was a series full of Lundqvist giving up two goal leads and blowing games. Yes, the Kings were aggressive, but you are paid the best in the world to play goalie. If you can’t do it, why pay your salary? Bottom line, Hank needs to be on top of the world for the Rangers to have any shot of making a serious run at the Cup.
  • Even without Ryan McDonagh, the Rangers did a superb job in keeping Cindy Crosby off the board. My friend who was betting this game asked me what I thought. I told him the Rangers do the opposite job on Crosby that they do with Ovechkin. Rangers are pretty good, in recent years, at shutting down the little bitch. Ovechkin? Not so much. I thought with Crosby entering the game on a hot streak and with McDonagh out, he was due to have a great game against the Rangers. Credit the Rangers defense and Phil Kessel (who wiffed on two easy goals) for keeping Crosby off the score sheet.
  • The three goals against the Penguins came from Kevin Hayes, Dominic Moore and Jesper Fast. Not really the “murderer’s row” of the New York Rangers. Even Tanner Glass got an assist on the Hayes goal. With no one having a clue what’s up with Rick Nash, Chris Kreider having the worst season of his career, Stepan’s head in the clouds, Brassard & Zuccarello showing up once in a while; the Rangers need their role players to step up a bit more.
  • It still pains me to see Carl Hagelin in a Penguins jersey. The Rangers PP remains dreadful. The PK is atrocious. I said from day one that Hagelin for Etem trade was a mistake. Hagelin should still be a Ranger. I mean the guy didn’t even get a call from Sather to even discuss a contract. So much for being loyal to a team and pouring all you got out there. Senile Sather could’ve at least gave the guy a call.
  • I wonder if there will be another shake-up in Pittsburgh if the Penguins miss the playoffs or are a first round exit again? I know it’s tough to compare eras in the NHL, and it really is for millions of reasons (Salary cap, less teams, better technology today, bigger equipment, rule changes, better scouting, etc), but Crosby only has one Cup. For someone hailed as the “Next Great One”, “The Next Gretzky”, “The Best Hockey Player Today”, Crosby isn’t even in the same arena as Gretzky, nevermind being in the same locker room. Should be interesting to see how Connor McDavid is doing ten years from now.
  • While the Rangers played sloppy at points and Marc Staal did everything he could to make sure Hank didn’t get his shutout, the Rangers fought. They played good hockey for 60 minutes. I know other fans go nuts about the turnovers, but what do you expect? No team has a game without making a turnover. The other team is a skilled squad too. So yea, I will say the Rangers played well-to-borderline-great hockey on Wednesday night.
  • I really fucking hate the NHL on NBC SN games. Roenick is ok, I guess, but Milbury and McGuire have no business on television. Pierre McGuire looks like one of those guys busted by Chris Hansen on “Catch a Predator”. After the way Pierre interviewed John Scott’s wife after the All-Star Game, Pierre will forever be an asshole. Speaking of assholes….
The biggest asshole in hockey

Every time I see Mike Milbury on TV, I just ask or scream, “WHY IS THIS GUY ON TV?” Does he know the game of hockey? Of course he does. Most non-superstars usually make good coaches or GM’s, because they shadowed/watched their coaches a lot from the bench during their careers. That goes for any sport. That said, Milbury was probably one of the worst coaches and GM’s in the history of hockey.

I’m sure readers of this blog know all about Mike Milbury, from attacking fans in the crowd to killing the Islander franchise. The man even has a petition out against him, asking for his job. You can sign that petition by visiting: https://www.change.org/p/nbc-nhl-nbcsn-a-petition-to-remove-nbc-sports-network-desk-analyst-mike-milbury

For fans who don’t know about Milbury, here’s a real brief, and I mean brief, synopsis of his track record:

  • The incident that everyone remembers Mike Milbury, as a player, is obviously the 12/23/79 game. Milbury jumped into the stands, two days before Christmas mind you, and attacked a Rangers fan, with the fans own shoe. You can watch different takes and comedic spins on the incident on Youtube. You can watch the video here: Milbury Attacks Fan with Shoe
  • You could literally write a book about why Mike Milbury is the worst GM/coach of all time during his Islanders tenure. There are so many stories and this is only a little blog. It’s a book idea though. Sure, the Spano shit didn’t make his job any easier, but trading away Luongo, Chara, Bertuzzi, Palffy, Jokinen, McCabe, Berard, Redden; among others, didn’t help either. Being in last place or second to last place every year wasn’t a glowing achievement for Milbury either.
  • This is also the same guy that drafted Rick Dipietro with the number 1 overall pick and paid him like he was Patrick Roy, Martin Brodeur and Domenik Hasek combined!
  • How about the time Mike Milbury assaulted a 12 year old kid? You can read that article from ESPN by clicking here.
  • On NBC Milbury has put his foot in his mouth so many times. He’s also been extremely arrogant and overall a real killjoy. The way he handled the John Scott situation was disgusting and perhaps done with envy.

Bottom line, NHL on NBC should want anchors that are respected and be guys fans want to see. I guess NHL on NBC goes for the “Howard Stern” effect with Milbury, meaning that more people will tune in out of hatred and to see what he says/does next. If that’s the strategy, I guess I understand it. Ratings are up for NHL on NBC so I guess don’t fix what’s not broken. At the same time, NBC should expect fans to spew hatred back at them whenever that asshole Milbury is on the air.

Honestly, there are great men around the league who could easily replace Milbury. Two of them are in NY already. Stan Fischler would be great, but maybe it’s an age thing and the fact that Fischler is done traveling. John Giannone would be great too. Maybe Giannone would be too dry, but when he gets a chance to show his personality on TV, he’s pretty good. Perhaps they want an ex-player? I get that you want someone who will say dumb shit at times to get people talking, but you want someone that wasn’t a complete failure like Milbury. Want controversial, make a run at Sean Avery! All I’m saying is that there are thousands of ex-hockey players in retirement right now, thousands of paid journalists, thousands of bloggers and millions of fans – and I would rather see any of them over Mike Milbury.

I’ve given Milbury too much time in my day already and I haven’t even started talking Rangers/Kings yet. Let’s get into it!
Raanta had his worst game as a Ranger on Friday night.

The Rangers dropped a 5-4 OT decision to the LA Kings at home on Friday night. With Lundqvist playing a ton of games recently, Coach Alain Vigneault opted to rest Lundqvist. I saw some fans were upset that Lundqvist was being benched, because Lundqvist has been playing so well of late. Why cool him down? Bottom line is that while this loss sucks, you want Lundqvist fresh for the playoffs. Lundqvist will need his rest, for a hopeful long playoff run, so you want him 100% come playoff time.

While I know how the LA Kings are somewhat of a new rival for the Rangers, after the 2014 Stanley Cup loss, the fact of the matter is that the Kings play in the Western Conference. You would rather Lundqvist sit out these games against non division/conference opponents and play every game against divisional teams. There’s a pretty good chance that the Rangers blow out the Kings with Lundqvist in net on Friday night, especially with Johnathan Quick out and career AHLer, Peter Budaj, in net.

Before getting into Raanta a bit, here are his stats, thus far, this season, courtesy of ESPN.com:

Going into last night’s game, Raanta hasn’t won a game since 11/15, against the lowly Maple Leafs. His last start was nearly a month ago. Raanta got a lot of work when the Rangers were just absolutely woeful and dreadful, coming in to mop up for Lundqvist. With the Rangers not having that many back-to-backs, Lundqvist has been taking the load. So sure, there’s gonna be rust there.

Yes, we all know I’m the Cam Talbot guy, but when the Rangers traded Talbot (and Hags, in addition to letting MSL walk and eventually retire) I said the Rangers would be worse at the beginning of October 2015 than they were in May 2015. We all know by now that I would’ve tried to get out of Lundqvist’s contract and kept Talbot here. I’ve written plenty of blogs on that subject, and you can find them in the archives, located on the right hand of the site.

One of the reasons, among many, that I thought the Rangers would be worse this season than last year was because of Talbot. When Lundqvist went down, the Rangers actually played better. They won their first President’s Trophy since the 90’s. If Talbot plays in the playoffs last season, who knows if the Rangers win the Cup or not. Even that Lightning series killed me inside, because I was ranting and raving about how Tampa always kills Lundqvist, and they did.

However, Lundqvist is the guy here, there’s no debating that. However, he’s not gonna play 82 games. You need a guy to step up, win and keep momentum going. While I don’t think the Rangers will lose momentum with this loss, especially with the Flyers up next, this was an easy two points the Rangers gave up. They do get one point, but when it comes to the beginning of April, the difference between second and third place or even scarier, third place and out of the playoffs, better not be by a point. I don’t even bring up first place because there is no fucking way they are catching the Capitals.

I can’t really rag on Raanta too bad, but he’s no Cam Talbot. The guy isn’t playing much. There’s one thing to play the game and another just to practice. Here’s what Raanta said after the game, courtesy of BlueShirtsUnited.com:

On playing tonight’s game…

“I was really nervous the first couple of periods and I couldn’t play my own game. I was moving too much so I wasn’t set any time when the shot was coming, so it was more about just going down and hopefully it hits you. So it was really tough the first 40 minutes, but in the third period I started to feel the puck better. I thought we got what I thought was going to be our game winning goal but then they got the lucky bounce and it went in and the rest is history. It’s hard right now, it’s really hard.”

On whether you were surprised that a shot that looked like it was going three feet wide ended up in the back of the net (on the game tying goal)…

“I wasn’t surprised – it’s been too long [for me] already for the win, November something. The last four minutes felt like forever. The clock didn’t move at all, and then the puck just came to the net and all our guys are so great blocking shots and sometimes it just hits the guy in the chest and bounces in the net. So it’s already pretty funny how bad luck, I have right now. I wanted to win so badly so that bounce was pretty hard to take.”

On the overtime goal…

“Again it was one of those great shots; the whole game story was [their] four shots and the one bounce. I don’t know what’s wrong right now, but I just feel like I’m there but the reaction isn’t. It’s hard to explain it. You just try to make the save but when you just don’t have the feeling in your head and in your body, it’s pretty hard. I don’t know. It’s tough to take the loss, it’s real tough. Usually you could just say you’ll keep on working but now I know that’s also very hard to do, but we need to go home and get some rest. Hopefully tomorrow is a new day and it’s a better day hopefully.”

Raanta knows he coughed this one up, especially with the Rangers holding the lead with 5 minutes to go and giving up the tying goal with 30 seconds left. He’s accepting responsibility and I understand his plight. It’s not easy, but at the same time, he has to be better than this. Too bad MacKenzie Skapski is toiling around with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits of the ECHL right now. I wouldn’t mind seeing him back for a start if this is the way Raanta will play in relief of Lundqvist.

Let me be clear – I’m not calling for Raanta’s head yet or anything, but he’s gonna have to start playing better. Chalk this one off the board and move on. However, if the trend continues, the Rangers might want to seek help, especially since Lundqvist should be getting more breaks towards the end of the season and a playoff spot hopefully locked up.

My seats weren’t shabby on Friday!

As far as the game itself, I thought the Rangers continued to play well and kept improving. It’s a shame they couldn’t make it a five game win streak, but with Raanta being rusty, it’s easier to accept. The Rangers penalty kill continues to be atrocious. However, if you can believe this, Kevin Hayes scored a power play goal to give the Rangers a lead in the third period! Even more impressive, the Rangers were 100% on the PP! I almost had a fucking heart attack and it wasn’t from those 24 oz heroin tasting Budweiser beers at the Garden! (No, I have never done heroin before. When I went to Alberta, fans in Calgary told me they call Budweiser “Heroin Beers”!)

Besides Raanta, what went wrong in this loss? For starters, I thought the Rangers didn’t do a good job of shooting the puck, which is a common problem for them. With an AHLer goalie in net, the Rangers needed to test him more. This is the same guy the Rangers scored 3 goals on in 8 shots when Pudaj played in relief of Carey Price during game 1 of the 2014 ECF. Too much of looking for the perfect shot shit. Just fire the puck away. Good things happen when you shoot.

It’s amazing that the Rangers can always contain Crosby, play well against Ovechkin (granted, at times) and shut down so many other scorers but always seem to struggle against Kopitar. Kopitar has become a Rangers killer the last few seasons.

Here’s the official box score, with my notes on the goals in italics:

1st Period Summary

Time Team Scoring Detail LA NYR
0:33
Anze Kopitar (14)
Assists: Drew Doughty, Milan Lucic
Due to waiting til the last second on Stubhub to print tickets, I was waiting to enter my section from the main corridor. I like how hockey makes people wait to get to their seats during play. It drives me nuts when I see the uneducated, unwashed masses bumbling through when the game is going on, especially when the puck is right in front of you. I watched the goal later on, just a shitty situation and Raanta needs to be better. Marc Staal screened his own goalie, which I’m sure makes a large portion of the fanbase ecstatic.
1 0
11:26
Marian Gaborik (12) (Power Play)
Assist: Alec Martinez
I was hoping this would be like the Minnesota game, where the Rangers fell 2-0 and climbed back. It’s funny, looking back at it now, I thought this was the Rangers game to lose. I forgot they game back from a 2-0 deficit. Maybe I’m feeling more confident in the team that I expect them to make these deficits up and come back and win. They were there tonight.
2 0
13:00
Viktor Stalberg (8)
Assists: Kevin Hayes, Oscar Lindberg
Everytime this line scores, twitter blows up and journalists are already trying to come up with a sexy name for this line. “Two Swedes & an American” really just doesn’t cut it. Stalberg has shown that when he’s on, he can swing a game. The problem is that he’s not on all the time.

10:13
Marc Staal: 2 Minutes for Delaying Game – Puck over Glass

2nd Period Summary

Time Team Scoring Detail LA NYR
7:44
Derek Stepan (10)
Unassisted
People like to talk about how bad the Rangers defense can be. The Kings defense was just as bad or worse than the Rangers D has ever been, as Stepan had no problem getting by everyone and scoring. Stepan, with that big contract, needs to score more. The Rangers took a risk signing him for big money, considering his injury issues. He’s had a bad string of luck, injury wise, but for the money, the guy should have more than 10 goals at this point in the season.
2 2
9:21
Mats Zuccarello (19)
Assists: Chris Kreider, Derek Stepan
Does anything blow up twitter faster than a ZUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUC goal? GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU SHOOT THE PUCK!
Zucc backhanded one here and it bounced off LeCavalier. Rangers take the lead. Just as I thought. I’m happy and better rested when I have confidence in this team!
2 3
15:46
Anze Kopitar (15)
Assists: Milan Lucic, Dustin Brown
The Rangers couldn’t get out of the second period with the head, as Kopitar beat Raanta again. Staal got beat and exposed by Kopitar this time too. Imagine that. The guy being paid an extreme amount of money to be a defensemen’s defenseman gets shown up twice by Kopitar.

Time Team Penalty Detail
10:12
Dominic Moore: 2 Minutes for Hooking

3rd Period Summary

Time Team Scoring Detail LA NYR
15:14
Kevin Hayes (9) (Power Play)
Assists: Mats Zuccarello, Keith Yandle
With Martinez tossing the puck over the glass (not Tanner), the Rangers got their usual PP which I thought would be a waste of 2 minutes. Zucc skated all over the place and found the stick of Hayes for what should’ve been the game winner. For the record, this was the 3rd PP goal in the last 51 attempts.
3 4
19:30
Anze Kopitar (16)
Assists: Drew Doughty, Jeff Carter
In a 6 vs 5 situation, Kopitar crushed everyone in the Garden with his hat trick. I think Lundqvist saves that. I think I could’ve saved that. I think you could’ve saved it. Heartbreaker.

Alec Martinez: 2 Minutes for Delaying Game – Puck over Glass

OT Summary

Time Team Scoring Detail LA NYR
3:10
Tanner Pearson (7)
Assists: Alec Martinez, Tyler Toffoli
As I was wondering who the shootout favors, Tanner Pearson took a harmless 35 foot shot at Raanta. For a second, the Garden was silent, then people started packing up their shit and hit the exits. UGLY goal. This one will stay with Raanta for a while.

If you’re upset about this game, you need to get over it. There is a bigger picture for the Rangers to paint and hopefully that picture features a Stanley Cup in the middle. The team is playing better. Lundqvist is playing better. If the back-up goalie having a bad night is why you lost, then you can’t go nuts over it.

Taking in a game with some diehards (and Jesse)
I took this game in with my friends Mary Ann and Eddie, also from Long Island. Mary Ann wanted to see the players after the game. I used to love doing that as a kid, and I have binders of cards signed from the 1990’s, but as near 34 year old man, chasing younger men in the streets isn’t my thing. Plus it was freezing cold. However, we decided to see who would show up. I kinda wasn’t expecting anyone, as I thought most of them would go to the garage, but we wound up bumping into Tanner Glass and Dominic Moore. Both nice guys, but I felt like a creep waiting around! It’s something you can only get away with if you’re under 16 years old or female!

I’m about 14 beers deep in this picture and must’ve reeked liked it. My friends said I didn’t, probably because I’m always popping Tic-Tacs, but if Tanner popped me right in the face, I would’ve understood!
So here’s your BLUECOLLARBLUESHIRTS.com EXCLUSIVE!!!!!
My exchange with Tanner Glass:
Me, somewhat inebriated:
“Fuck up Simmonds on Sunday.”
Glass: “I got this.”
YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST MOTHERFUCKERS!
All jokes aside, Tanner was nice. When I asked Moore who would take care of Simmonds, he just smiled. They’ve probably been hearing the same question from every jerkoff in the streets all week.

Now that this week is over, one of the most anticipated Rangers/Flyers non-playoff game ever is on the table. Yea we’ve had the Broad Street Bullies and intense divisional games, but Simmonds has cheap shotted himself into a hated target amongst Ranger fans.

Dirtier than Ric Flair
Tanner’s fists will look nice on Simmonds face.
Valentine’s Day. The city of Brotherly Love. You might hear about both of those things this Sunday, 2/14, but on Sunday night, it’s all about the Rangers not only beating the Flyers on the ice and on the scoreboard, but seeking retribution against Wayne Simmonds for his dirty play on Ryan McDonagh.

Ryan McDonagh is still out with concussion symptoms. I talked about this already. There is no way the Rangers nor any other professional team will allow any player to come back without being 100% cleared when it comes to concussions. Sports change. Sports evolve. People are dying from CTE. People’s lives are ruined from CTE. CTE is real and to ignore that it doesn’t exist is ignorant and dangerous. However, we also live in America, home of the free, land of the lawsuit. No team is going to open themselves up for major litigation by allowing anyone to play.

While Ryan McDonagh can’t do anything about Simmonds, at least for Sunday, the eyes of the Ranger fan will be on #15 Tanner Glass and #6 Dylan McIlrath. Again, check the archives or the main page and read a few of the last blogs, but this is what the NHL created. If they just suspended Simmonds, I don’t think myself and many people in the Rangers fanbase would be so blood-thirsty right now. The NHL better allow whoever smacks Simmonds up the same leeway Simmonds got, when it comes to fines and suspensions. The Rangers will be considered pussies if they don’t retaliate against Simmonds, especially with the no punishment Simmonds got, so the NHL knows there will be violence. Maybe they want that for a prime-time game. I’m sure Milbury will love it too.

Shithole
A normal non-Ranger vs Islander day crowd at the Barclay Center
As we get to the end of this massive blog, I close with this. Check out: http://nyislesblog.com/2016/02/12/if-you-know-the-rangers-clap-your-hands-has-been-banned-from-barclays-center/

In a nutshell, the organist of the Islanders is no longer allowed to play songs disparaging the Rangers. I’m sure the Islander fan base loves that. I’ve already written about how much I hate the Barclays. In fact, for shits and kicks, here’s my Top 10 List on Why The Barclays Sucks:

TOP 10 REASONS WHY THE BARCLAY CENTER IS THE WORST ARENA IN THE NHL

  1. The sight lines. Anyone who has been here will tell you that this is the worst arena to watch hockey in. Some seats are facing one way, while your head is facing another. Half the building offers “obstructed view” seats. For the money you will pay, why not just watch it at home, where the only obstruction is the beer can in your face? Who wants to watch a game where you have to jump up and down, squirm and wrench your neck to see anything? Plus, while you’re doing that, the person in front of you is doing the same thing, so then you have to adjust to what he/she is doing too. In 2016, with all this technology we have, whoever designed this layout for the Islanders should be arrested for robbery and fraud.
  2. The scoreboard is offside. Maybe Islander fans will say, “yea, but does that really matter?” Yes it does. At a game, when the scoreboard is offside it sometimes screws with your peripheral vision a bit. If you have OCD, this will drive you wild, because you can never be centered. It looks bush league and is completely amateur.
  3. The dead space. The building has no clue what it’s trying to go for. You have a section that looks like it came out of the “Midieval Castle” in Lyndhurst, NJ. We watching hockey or are we jousting? You got another section with just black and gray walls. Why? It looks like a fucking auto garage
  4. The SUV in the front row. I don’t even know what automaker is sponsoring that truck in the front row, nor do I care enough to google it to find out, but whatever the Islanders are being paid to have that thing there, it is not enough. The vehicle looks like it came off a used car lot to begin with. Is it worth losing out on ticket sales and creating potential new fans who could’ve sat in those seats? The car being there really looks like a minor league promotion, not a NATIONAL Hockey League event. I would rather see a statue of John Spano there than this.
  5. The rap music. Enough already. I get it, you play in Brooklyn now. Not everything in Brooklyn is rap music. People appreciate other things. Listen, I like to see girls with fat asses too and wouldn’t mind doing that “Big Pimping” and spending G’s thing, but it doesn’t fit with the family friendly Islander brand.
  6. The Nets integration. I guess the rap music is part of that too, but from changing the color of the jerseys, all the Nets plugs, the venue making the Islanders looking a guest crashing on the couch, etc; the Barclay’s is telling you that the Islanders are the red-headed step-child of the building. I’ve been to more Ranger games than I can remember, and a handful of Knick games, but at both events, I knew the Knicks and the Rangers owned this house. The Islanders are living in their mothers basement at the Barclay.
  7. No more Icelander girls! I mean really? It was nice seeing the girls skate in between play and then ordering your meal from them at Hooters after the game. True story, a girl I knew in college, you know, the University of Nassau Community, was an Icelander girl/Hooter server/student. Don’t know what she’s doing today, since that was 15 years ago. If you’re reading Christine, thank you for filling out my bowling score sheet. Which brings me to another true story. To get my degree from the highly esteemed University of Nassau Community, I had to go to summer school and get 6 physical education credits. My classes were karate, bowling 1 and bowling 2. My final exam for bowling 1, I just can’t remember. Maybe it was returning your shoes to the clerk. Bowling 2 I remember. We had to fill out our own bowling score sheet without the use of the computer. For whatever reason, I kept fucking it up, so this Icelander/Hooter Girl/fellow alumni of mine, filled mine out for me. The things that you remember.
  8. The whole e-ticketing system. I know this is league-wide, that you can’t scan your Stubhub or SeatGeek tickets at the door. Maybe because I know I can go to the Hotel Pennsylvania across MSG or even Staples down the block to print tickets, but the Barclays fouled this all up. First off, the Office Max across the street won’t let you print tickets. Why they refuse that money, I do not know. So what you have to do is go to a random black guy on the corner with a printer hooked up to a blue tooth, and pay him $5 a printout, versus the 30 cents charged everywhere else. I give the guy credit, it’s a good idea to make money. He had a line longer than a Sonic restaurant opening. At the same time, the guy was giving people the wrong printouts too. The Barclays has a place where you can print Ticketmaster tickets inside. Why not include a Stubhub center too? It’s easy money.
  9. Concession stand prices. I know we are in NY and all, but the prices in Barclays were worse than MSG. The Barclays should not be the highest place in the league to get a hot dog and a beer. They are trying to draw people from the area to go to games. They want the Long Island fans to take the LIRR to the games. I’m fortunate where I have a decent income, where I can afford to spend a bit, but for a family, the Islanders have turned their back to you.
  10. The atmosphere of the building. It just doesn’t feel like you’re at a hockey game. Even the truest pure blood Canadian would wonder if he was really watching a professional hockey game here. You’re just distracted. The whole place looks minor league. It might even be less than minor league. I mean, they don’t even give out the free t-shirts to the kids or anything. The Islanders even have a whole wall dedicated to something called DraftOps. I don’t know what the fuck DraftOps is, I’m assuming it’s like FanDuel or Draft Kings. While Draft Kings and FanDuel ads are annoying, at least I know what it is and know they are successful. DraftOps seems like the bootleg version, which I guess, really sums up the whole Barclay hockey experience.
So now after all of that, the no parking, the bad sight lines, the offside scoreboard yadda, yadda, yadda, the Islanders are telling their fans that they can’t sing about how much they hate the Rangers.
This Islanders move has been a shit-show from day one and it’s like this enema never ends. I feel bad and sympathetic for any Islander season ticket holder who has to put up with the bullshit there.

However, fuck the Islanders and fuck Wayne Simmonds. See ya Sunday night!

LET’S GO RANGERS
